What a day.  (no snow either, but lots of rain)

The Blood War sealed event was great!  We had 12 players and a whole lot of fun.  The group there are all a super great bunch of guys.Â

Another well run event at Millenium Games.Â

And I still can't believe I won my first ever sealed event with the mini's I pulled and the warband I ran.Â

I was this close -> l l <- (holding fingers about 1/4" apart) to dropping and leaving with the minis I pulled, but I stuck around to give it a try.  Keep in mind, the minis I pulled were almost identical to what I pulled at the Blood War pre-release two weeks prior.Â

So here's what I pulled from two boosters:

Chasme
Centaur Warhulk (same as pre-release)
Bluespawn Stormlizard
Large Water Elemental
Mercykiller
Soulknife Infiltrator
Half Orc Spy
Free League Ranger
Harmonium Guard
x2 Heros of Valhallah
Greenspawn Sneak
Kobold Monk
Solider of Bytopia
Skeletal Reaper

I was really bumbed as I thought it was a total junk pull and one of the worst pulls ever.  It was almost identical to what I pulled at the pre-release except no Lord of Blades and no Gnome Trickster.  All I wanted to pull was something a little better, like a Pit Fiend, Storm, Barbed Devil, Fire Giant Forgepriest, Maralith, Githyanki Dragon Rider, Vlaakith, anything but what I pulled.Â

Well, with a little luck I made lemonade from lemons.Â

Here's what I played:

Harmonium Guard (Commander, CFX was huge in helping lead to a few extra misses)
Chasme
Centaur Warhulk
Bluespawn
Hero of Valhallah
Greenspawn
Kobold Monk

7 activations, 195 pts, all speed 8 except for Chasme (sp F10), Greenspawn (sp 6, but has Scout) and Harmonium (sp 4, brining up the rear).  Map choice - Dragonshrine (for the energy creatures drawn by everyone else).  I figured I'd go with speed and hope for rushing them.Â

Of the other players and their warbands, here's what I can remember (feel free to correct):

x2 Firegiant Forgepriest warbands
x1 Pit Fiend warband
x1 Vlaakith + Githyanki Dragonrider warband
x1 Githyanki Dragonrider warband
x1 Barbed Devil Warband
x1 Storm warband
x1 Ice Devil / Red Hand Sorcerer / Air Gensai Swashbuckler
x1 Storm / Mezzoloth / Orc Wizard Warband / Bluespawn
x1 Maug / Red Hand Sorcerer / Howler / Dwarf Sniper warband / x2 Hammerers
x1 Ice Devil / Red Hand Sorcerer / Bluespawn / Large Water Elemental Warband

The last 4 are the 4 warbands that I faced and in that order.Â

1st match.  Played on Dragonshrine (but started on hot side).  VS Ross.Â
I won second round initiative and moved my Chasme right in the middle of 6 of my opponents 7 minis (Ice Devil was too far away) and 5 of them failed their save and fell asleep.  What luck.  I moved up my Warhulk and killed the one that stayed awake.  The Ice Devil used his Ice Storm on my Warhulk & Chasme.  I then based the Ice Devil with my Bluespawn.  Won initiative next round and Whirlwinded killing all but the Air Gensai (who went down 2 rounds later).  Ice Devil routed off map on last round.  Won on points.Â

2nd match.  Match played on Dragonshrine.  VS Ryan
Similarly won match, except that I lost 2nd round initiative and the Mezzoloth based my Chasme.  Chase tried Drone on Mezzoloth but it made save.  In 3rd round I moved Chasme away & took AoO (a hit) and made the MC.  Moved Chasme behind enemy lines and put 3 of figures to sleep (who the Warhulk Whirlwinded later on).  Way ahead on points after 1 hour.Â

3rd match.  Lost map initiative and played on Dragondown Grotto.  VS Steven
Toughest match of the day and it was decided by a die roll.  Opponent got the "good" side and set up Dwarf Snipper in the middle.  I used my Chasme to base the Sniper 1st round.  This allowed my others to move up without getting shot at.  During match I had to move Warhulk into Zone of Death and I made 2 MC's while there.  I was ahead on points having killed the Snipper, Red Hand Sorcerer, and 1 Hammerer, plus VP's for 2 rounds when he did not get any, but it would not have been enough if my Warhulk routed off the board.  In round 5 he was hit by the Howler and failed the MC and 1 AoO dropped him to 10 points.  In round 6 he failed MC and moved to within 5 spaces from exit.  With 1 minute left we rolled for initiative for round 7.  My opponent won and made me go first.  Well it was make MC and win, or fail MC and loose.  I made the MC and opponent conceded as time had been called and there was no way to score enough points to catch me.

4th Match.  Match played on Dragonshrine.
Cold and electricity protection helped huge in this match for me.  In this match I used the Chasme to go and Drone out a Greenspawn Sneak, kill it, and then move back to help out with the rest of the fight.  This match was basically won by making a few critical MC's and my opponents Ice Devil routing off the board at the end.  Until the Ice Devil routed, I was only ahead by a Bluespawn + 5 pts.  I had to actually kill my opponents Bluespawn as it made its MC.  Furthermore, I also missed his Bluespawn on 3 consecutive die rolls, 2 from my Warhulk @ +16 (flanking) and one from my Bluespawn @ +15 (flanking).  Another great and very tough match and well played by my opponent.

The funny part of this whole affair, I never faced off against one of the other major beaters - Firegiant Forgepriest, Vlaakith, Githyanki Dragonrider, or the Pit Fiend.  I guess luck of the draw is hugely important after all.Â

Again, thanks to everyone who played and Millenium Games for a well run evevt.Â

Cheers.Â

4th match was:

Ice Devil
Water Elemental
Free league ranger
greenspawn sneak
bluespawn
hammerer

Yea, that last match was good.  I think the game might have been a bit different if I had not made the mistakes I made.  I gave you the cold area, I put my FLR in the worng spot to start the game, etc.

Can't wait to see what you bring to the table for the next game.  It's a 200pt beat fest.Â

I was very suprised in that I made this band not knowing what creatures were going to be in the tourney.  It's a decent band to go against the FGFP that's for sure.  I faced the two FGFP bands and the Pit Fiend band. Â

May you find peace and happiness at the hand of Hextor.
