| Well, it was a little bit of a light turnout tonight. BunnyPuncher also showed, but with an odd number of players, he opted to sit out and watch the football game. Some very unexpected bands to night and even more unexpected results.
The bands:
Zak X
Ghaele Eladrin Bralani Eladrin Crow Shaman 5x Xeph Warrior Map: Drow Outpost
Zuran Alda
Purple Dragon Knight 2x Kolyarut Gold Dwarf Soldier Eberk Cleric of Moradin Aramil Timberwolf Map: Keep of the Fallen Kings I
Orcdoubleax
Vlaakith 2x Zombie White Dragon 2x Minotaur Skeleton 3x Orc Skeleton Map: Dragonshrine
Tem
Tiefling Captain Marilith Orc Champion Ogre Skirmisher Orc Wardrummer Hyena 2x Orc Warrior Map: Hellspike
Round 1: Orcdoubleax def. Zuran Zak X def. Tem
Round 2: Orcdoubleax def. Zak X Tem def. Zuran
Well - I think the best description for my games tonight would be that my dice were hot and cold. In the first match-up I won map and played against the Eladrin on Hellspike. Things seemed like they were going as planned early on. I had fairly quickly killed off the fodder and the Crow Shaman but not before he could cast cat's grace on both Eladrin. I managed to swarm both Eladrin but after losing initiative Ghaele ran away and my Marilith took out the Bralani. Unfortunately, Ghaele managed to run across the board to take out my commander. He then proceeded to kill my wardrummer with a crit before my hitters could get back to him. After this, he proceeded to play hit and run using his gaze attack. Both my skirmisher and champion failed morale on their first attempts, running off the board. Although the Marilith passed its first morale test, it failed the second. I could never get a full attack off because I couldn't win initiative with the 8 point deficit.
In the second round, I thought I was in trouble since I was playing against the PDK/Kolyarut band on his map - Keep of the Fallen Kings. I tried to use my fodder to screen against all the enervation and enfeeblement rays. I advanced the Orc Champ aggressively in the first round hoping I would win initiative to run up and hit/cleave against Aramil and something else. Unfortunately I lost initiative and he ended up getting hit by both rays. I moved him up anyway and took out Aramil before he could hit the marilith so at least that was a good thing. In the next round, I managed to make a full attack against the Kolyarut with the Marilith, dropping him to 15hp. The orc champ finished him off with a natural 19 (needing an 18 to hit IIRC). The orc champ fell quickly after that. Now my skirmisher started making use of his spring attack to move up, hit and move back behind the marilith each round. The remaining Kolyarut ran up to kill my Hyena (mostly to heal the 10hp) which was standing on my victory area. He rolled a natural 1 and my Marilith retaliated by hitting with exactly enough attacks to drop him. As a last ditch attempt, the PDK tried using the fear cone, but the only thing affected was the hyena and he conceded the game.
Overall, I made a lot of very high rolls to kill the high AC LG band, but made enough low rolls that my whole band ran away against the Eladrin band. If I had to guess, I would have thought the outcomes would have been exactly the opposite.
Congrats to Orcdoubleax who managed to take the night with an entirely undead band!
