D&D Miniatures 2006 Limited Championship Qualifier
1 p.m. Saturday, December 2nd at Dueling Grounds

The top 4 players win an invitation to compete in the 2007 Dungeons &
Dragons Miniatures Limited Championship held at Winter Fantasy on
February 15-18 in Arlington, Virginia! First place also gets round
trip airfare! The top 4 players also win Blood Wars booster packs.
Entry is $40. Each player receives two Blood Wars boosters to build a
200 pt. warband to compete with. The newest set of rules included in
the War Drums Starter will be used. Each player's set of cards will
be photocopied as their army list. Players must use the same army
list and choice of map throughout the entire tournament. All players
receive their choice of an alternate paint model and the top players
also get their choice of maps, additional alternate paint models,
spell templates, new terrrain tiles and RPG adventure modules.
Players are expected to bring their map of choice, a simple way to
effectively track damage and effects on your miniatures and a d20.

I know the Toronto Canada group is small here. Just want to know who's all coming. I will be there!

I'm new to DDM. But have played D&D for 13 years!

THESE ARE POSTED ON HORELINGS.COM

OK, quick post of results from my side. I finished second ... i.e., made the final four with a 4-1 record ... with the following warband:

84 Fire Giant Forgepriest
44 Mezzoloth
44 Mezzoloth
27 Harmonium Guard

I used the Hellspike map. Games were as follows:

Beat Randy on the Hellspike. He had Storm Silverhand, Elf Warmage, flying trampling Stag Beetle (annoying), Hammerer, Greenspawn Sneak, Kobold Monk, Acheron Goblin, maybe a Maug and something else? I started on the Spike side, cloudkilled his Sneak, and moved the other Mezzo directly into the victory area A in the smoke. His guys promptly beat up on the Mezzo, but in the meantime I managed to get the Forgepriest in there with his toe on the area, basing the Beetle. I won two absolutely key initiatives here. After he moved up Silvia to empowered shock the Forgepriest and surrounded him with a bunch of characters I won the next initiative. I think I cleaved the Hammerer into the Maug who I killed (the Mezzo had been working on the Maug). The next stroke softened up the annoyingly fearless Warmage, and the second Mezzo came in from behind to finish her off ... lucky since the Forgepriest was getting low from all the attacks. Storm came in and knocked out one Mezzo and hurt the Forgepriest badly with her silver fire, but the Forgepriest hung around long enough to get rid of Storm (won the next initiative here?) with the help of the last Mezzo. Meanwhile the Harmonium Guard was doing a great job in the backfield of holding off the Kobold Monk and Acheron Goblin so he didn't get tile points (I luckily based him running through). He also finished 4-1.

Beat Yik on the Hellspike. He had a Gnoll Priestess, a couple of Gnoll Barbarians, a Harmonium Guard, an Air Genasi, a Bralani Eladrin and I can't remember the rest ... in brief, just my sort of classic CG finesse band ... while I am playing LE heavies. Again I managed to get the battle set up close to the Victory Area near his start. I think he had a bunch of mid-ranged beaters, which were all very nasty, and took down at least one Mezzoloth but lots of cleavage from the Forgepriest finished him off. He was another 4-1 finisher.

Beat Solar, Green Slaad, Chasme, filler band on King's Road. I got line of sight to his starting tile, and got rid of his filler with a cloudkill from a Mezzoloth. The Fire Giant led so the Solar couldn't find a path for the killing arrow. He misplayed his Green Slaad, rolling for spells early when out of range rather than staying invisible, and the Slaad got hit with a second cloudkill. When the Slaad approached the Forgepriest closed with him to avoid any spellcasting. He ganged up on the Forgepriest with his big three, but had to move his Solar in, only getting a single attack on the first round, while the Forgepriest was knocking out the Slaad in two rounds. I believe the Chasme failed morale, and then with three beaters left on the Solar I managed to knock him down.

Lost to the eventual winner on the Hellspike. He had a Gnome Trickster, Maug, Kolyarut, Hammerer, Heir of Deneith, Harmonium Guard, Greenspawn Sneak. The game started similarly with me on the Spike side (his choice), my one Mezzoloth cloudkilling his tile grabber, my getting my other Mezzoloth into the smoke in the victory area, and him ganging up on it. He did a great job of playing with the Heir and Gnome to continually get flanking with them and do all sorts of nasty damage. He had also fire-resisted his Kolyarut so my Giant was only doing 20 damage per hit. He saved his invisibility sphere until the middle of the match. At an early stage he beat up one Mezzo which ran but later rallied. My Giant was based by a Hammerer and had to choose to kill him (with nothing to cleave into) or take the AoO. I wasted a few attacks on invisible creatures, and was beaten up by lots of different things, but at the very end managed to clear out the Maug, killed the Heir of Deneith with my Harmonium Guard, and with only a few hp left on the Giant managed to kill the Kolyarut. However, I forgot I could cleave onto the Gnome Trickster ... didn't, and his Harmonium Guard moved the last few spaces to flank, won initiative, and the two of them took me down.

Beat Pitfiend, Mezzoloth, Shadow Dancer, Hero of Valhalla, 2 Fiendish Snakes on Broken Demongate. All of my band lined up on the front access point, except for one Mezzoloth. An opening cloudkill got rid of one snake, but the other miraculously saved. The Forgepriest then jumped right into the middle of the hallway, well ahead of the others to protect against the fireball. At the start of the second round he gave me initiative with his pieces bunched up in the front, and another cloudkill got rid of the second snake. Then the Forgepriest had room to step forward and cleave the Hero into the Mezzoloth. My first shock happened here when I discovered that the Pitfiend gave the Mezzo resist fire.

He flanked the Firegiant with the Shadowdancer, and put the beat down, but I managed to morale save, and then get the Mezzoloth to run off the board with two more hits. The Pitfiend stepped up to continue the flank for the Shadowdancer (only one hit), but the Shadowdancer ran on a single hit from the Firegiant while my Mezzos closed onto the Pitfiend. He finally took down the giant ... but the Mezzos and Harmonium Guard (now up in the fight - I was throwing everything at the remaining Pitfiend) managed to just finish the Pitfiend off, with his Shadowdancer rallying and about to return. No tile points scored by either.

THIS IS MY REPORT

Great Report Kuh,

I didn't get to play you which I was thankful of.

However, I only did 2-3 and once again was beaten by Marc in the final round.

Short summary

My Warband

Dragon Heiar of Deneith
Elf WarMage
Hell Cat
Red Hand War Sorcerer
Free League Ranger
Hammer
Sneak

Round 1
VS
Brad
His warband correcnt me if I'm wrong...
Pitfiend, Mezzoloth, Shadow Dancer, Hero of Valhalla, 2 Fiendish Snakes on Broken Demongate

My warband setup on altar side and placed my sneak in victory area near his warband.
Sneak did get me one round of tile points but that would be it.
Brad lined up a fire ball with pit fiend and hit my Hell cat, Ranger and Elf Warmage. Two passed Hellcat and Elf and ranger failed and almost routed and was later killed by Shadowdancer. My army was too spaced out and had no cover I lost by 4 round.

Lesson learned Keep War Elf in cover and try to win map choice in order to win.

Round Two
Played Robin
His warband please correct me if I'm wrong
Thundertusk Cavalry
Elf Warmage
Maug
Gnome Trickster
Ranger
X 2 Sneak
On DragonShine

I lost map side and had to start on the Cold side.
I setup my sneak on victory area near his warband. Collected 50 points and was never touched)!

I knew this was 50-50 matchup so I went all offenseive in a slow way. Moving my ranger up and eliminating the first Sneak in round two. I spaced everyone behind cover and close enough for next turn charge, while empowering ring of blades on Elf Warmage.

Thrid round won init and had opponent go first and he charged my Hellcat and missed in fact so did Maug full attack for the next 4 rounds only hitting once...
My Warmage moved into combat and shocking grasp ThunderTusk which failed taking the full and I knew if still based would mean morale save for Tusk... However gnome had other plans. My Hell Cat did full attack on Maug hitting twice.

Robin next double moved his warmage up to base mine couldn't cast a spell And Gnome slide my Warmage to beside his. Argh I'm thinking both Warmages have empowered ring of blades and are right beside exit.

I moved Ranger up and killed his second sneak and moved bodyguard up and hit Maug.

Round 4 (what luck!)
Win init
I move my ranger so that I can make morale save with Warmage. Miss with shot on his ranger. Then my warmage makes morale and moves back to base both Warmage and Thundertusk and shocking grasp just for over kill on activation.

His Warmage fails and routs and so does Tusk! From there I beat the maug down with my body guard ,Hell Cat And Red Hand spells while my Mage cleaned up the rest!

1-1

Round 3
Played Laurie (sorry If I spell your name wrong)
Marilith
Elf Warmage
Kolyarut
Medium Copper Dragon
Doomguard
X 2 Goblins
Sneak

I Win Map and Side WOW!
So we played on King's Road
I setup on good side with my sneak on shared Victory Area.

Won first round. Opponent moved first heading towards shared victory area and into forests. Will my sneak live...

I double move all my creatures except for my Elf Warmage and Empower ring of blades on her again. Then move into forest near side of vicotry area.

Round two won and let opponent move again
She moves up Bronze dragon to slow cone my ranger and Red hand. Ranger passes and Red Hand doesn't.

Then she moves up Kolyarut to hit my sneak and misses.

I blast Brass with Ligntning bolt and passes taking 10 and my ranger scores a hit as well.

Opponent double moves through forest one forest square away from Warmage and and moves up commander behind her.

Next I block Marilith's exit with hell cat and score a hit for only 5 but my plan in place I'm hoping to win next round.

My sneak misses Kolyarut and my body guard move into range to attack fleeing sneak and hits killing it.

Goblins double move to help out Brass but its too late.

I double move hammer so that next round attack on Marilith as well.

Round 3
Win INT! I move my warmage up and Shocking grasp Marilith and fails save. Hell Cat Hit with a critical and misses. Marilith activates and fail Morale! can't run away because of being surrounded by my creatures and only 1 square with his commander behind against mountain. I'm not sure if this is possible but I was told it was.

Her commander tried to help by attacking Hell cat but no chance of hitting. And Kolyarut moved up to attack and hit but missed on conceal!

My bodyguard sidesteps and full attacks Brass Hits once with critical and passes Morale. Sorcecer Lightning Bolts Brass and one Goblin. Both pass saves!

Goblins moves up to attack Bodyguard and misses.

Hammer Moves up and hits Marilith. Next round she dies on her turn.

Round 4
Opponent wins INT... too late.
Commander attacks Hell Cat and missses.
Kolyarut hits once.

Hell Cat Full attacks Kolyarut and Hit Twice with Rend (but forget to mention extra damage!)

Bodyguard finish Brass with two hits.

Marilith dies on activation.
Warmage Shocking grasps my Hell Cat and failes Spell resistance !

My warband clean up house from there.

2-1

The next two rounds I lost twice

Round 4

Randy Band won with one morale save with his Warmage after I killed Storm and ganged up on my Hell Cat with Maug, Beetle and Storm.

Round 5
Marc Band won mostly because of my horrible bad luck with dice rolls and my Red Hand that got confused by Hi Commander can't belive it. Marc has been me now three times in a row.

Thanks, for spliting Case with me Marc!

Marc ended up wining top prize and I look forward to hearing his report at Limited Championship to support the Toronto Region!
