My matches:
1st: it was kind of scary seeing Bralani Eladrin failing his save against disintegrate and dying right away... Won on points by killing everything but marilith. I can't see much synergy between marilith and the lich queen. Although Marilith has a lot of damage potential, she has too few hit points to be a reliable blocker for the lich queen. 2nd: Forgepriest + Maugs = lots of hurt. Too bad he was using the Kobold Sorcerer as his commander. On third round Ghaele flew to the poor kobold and on the next round, killed him. After that, it was just a matter of gaze attacking the forgepriest until he eventually failed his morale save and routed. Won on points before the time was over when the priest left the map. 3rd: MY NEMESIS!! Unfortunately, I lost map choice. I can't remember all the details, but there was a critical hit on one of his Berserkers from Ghaele and for the first time his xeph missed an important attack. Semifinals: The forgepriest again. This time was more careful and more aware of my strategy. For two or three turns he kept a Maug near his commander all the time. When he finally decided to move the maug a little further (nothing that a Ghaele bait couldn't do...), the Bralani based the poor kobold and killed in the next round. Again, it was just a matter of time before the forgepriest failed his morale saves (worth mentioning that he passed it FOUR times...) Finals: AGAIN I lost map initiative. The game was DRAMATIC. Since the castle strategy didn't work very well, I tried to spread a little more. There were several dramatic moments in the match: Round two: - He moved Ryld where Ghaele could gaze attack him. I took the chance and it WORKED: Ryld ran away. To do that, however, I had to expose ghaele to one of the berserkers. Now that I look at it, this was a very important moment and I will explain why. - With the help of a 19 and ghaele's commander effect, Bralani killed one of the berserkers. Round three: - even without commander, he wins initiave... - berserker hits ghaele twice, but she passes morale check - Ghaele with 55hp remaining decided to fly away, drawing one attack of oportunity from the remaining Frenzied Berserker: CRITICAL HIT!! Ghaele DIES.... After that he just killed teh crow shaman and got 40 victory points. Worth noticing: it is likely he would have won regardless of that critical hit. That berserker was almost on full hit points, which means she would have at least another chance to hit ghaele anyway. Now going back to the point where ghaele gaze attacked his commander. Why was it important? I remember perfectly and I hope he does too: There was two xephs blocking the path to where bralani and the crow shaman were. I remember, in the previous round, noticing that those 2 xephs were badly positioned. Because of them Ghaele couldn't shoot anyone without exposing herself. I thought to myself: "I should move them so that ghaele can stay behing them instead". The round passed and instead of moving, I completely forgot and just left them where they were. Now that I think of, MAYBE (I don't remember all the moves prior to this moment) I could have moved them further so that I would have gaze attacked Ryld from behind the xephs and then the FB couldn't have based her, giving me more time to try to run further. Well, that costed me the game and chance to brag about winning Vladas on his own map in a tournment... hehehehe...
Other warbands/matches comments:
Someone was playing Storm-mage!! Too bad he didn't have much experience and luck with it: one match lost to Pit Fiend, the other lost to Mordenkainen. It is worth mentioning that the archmage FAILED his save against Mordenkainen's buzzing bee (DC13) right in the begginning of the match, thus becoming almost useless. I was happy that I didn't have to face that warband. Archmage is very powerful against ghaele.
ps. to the moderator: should I create a new topic for each tournment or report them all on the same topic? If it is better to put all in the same, could you please edit the title to "DDM in Moscow - Russia" ? Thanks |
