Now that the sun has come out and the weather is starting to warm up, it seems people are less inclined to spend a Saturday afternoon indoors playing minis.Go figure.Anyway – we had 5 players show up this week even though one had to drop after the first two rounds. Here’s what happened:

My first match was against Zuran Alda and it was rather unfortunate that he had a bit of a bad match-up against me.Tordek could only hit Storm for 5 damage due to her electricity healing. He won his map and side so we were on Magma Keep.In the first round, My Bralani tried to take out his scout but one missed with his attack and was unable to cause a morale check. We both advanced our troops towards the centre of the map while a lone Xeph made his way towards a victory area.In the second round, I managed to rout the Scout with a charge from my other Xeph.I then used Storm’s confusion which was able to affect two of his soldiers as well as the routing scout. He then spent most of his round doing nothing but everyone passed the save after their next activation.I managed to rout his wolf with a whirlwind blast from a Bralani which then allowed a War Wizard to cast a lightning bolt which affected a good chunk of his warband.I repeated the procedure in the next round and managed to take out just about everything except Tordek and Van Richten as he tried to move up and base the spell casters. The fourth round was more of the same with more rays/whirlwind blasts/silver fire which pretty much sealed the game.

My second match was against Tomcat who was playing CE dragons along with the WWL.Thankfully, I won my map which would mean it would take the WWL a long time to get to my warband. He won side and started from the “live” side of the map.In the first round, I managed to get a couple ranged shots off on his Fang Dragon, both of which hit.I also ran a Xeph to the central victory area to get tile points for the round.I won initiative in the second round and took two full ranged attacks from my Bralani on his now-closer Large Black.I hit with 3 attacks for 45 damage which caused a morale check which he passed. He flew amid my spellcasters and made an attack against Storm which missed.I retaliated by dropping silverfire across both dragons and finishing off the Large Black with a scorching ray.By this point, his WWL and Dark Talon Champions had made it to the central victory area where all my 3-pointers were also standing.I used a Lightning bolt to catch most of them along with my own guys so that he couldn’t become fearless by killing one with the WWL.On the following round, the Fang Dragon routed from attacks and so did his WWL when I won init and hit it with another lightning bolt and a Bralani ranged attack. The game was conceded at this point since there was nothing much else he could do before I could deal enough auto-damage to drop the WWL and the Fang would run off the board.

My third match was against Zak X who unfortunately misplaced one of his minis (a dwarf artificer) and had to make a last minute substitution of a Knight of the Chalice which also dropped him to 6 activations. He won map so we played on laceName w:st="on">TeleportlaceName> laceType w:st="on">TemplelaceType>.We both spent the first round moving out to occupy teleporters. In the second round, he moved the Pentifex into a victory area and gave him the AC bonus.Since I out-activated him, I ended the round by hitting with a ranged attack from a Bralani, one ranged attack from Storm, and two 25 damage rays from the war wizards to drop him.In the following round, he teleported his beaters in and ran up to base my somewhat exposed wizards.I took an AOO with one of them to cast slide and get the other out of harm’s way.I followed up with a number of line attacks in the form of lightning bolt, silverfire and whirlwind blast which dropped just about everyone. The game was conceded after his hitters had fallen since there was no good way to do any serious damage to me after that.

Since Odyssey 2000 only had one retailer kit this month they opted to give a booster as a prize for first place this week.I took Unhallowed and pulled the Pentifex Monolith.Oh well – at least it is a mini I don’t already have from the set.
