| We had another decent showing tonight with 7 players tonight. One thing I've noticed in the past couple weeks is that since we have at least 8 sanctioned tournaments a month, a lot of the newer players are really learning fast and it won't be long before they're climbing the ranks. Here's what went down:
The bands:
Zak X (3-0 with a bye)
Cleric of Sune Virtuous Charger x2 Gnome Trickster Graycloak Ranger x2 Dwarf Battlerager Hero of Valhalla Timber Wolf x2 (minions) Map: Magma Keep
Tomcat (2-1)
Storm Silverhand Cormyrean War Wizard x2 Gnome Trickster Steelheart Archer x2 Air Mephit Wild Elf Warsinger Bat Familiar Map: Broken Demongate
Temysry (2-1)
Storm Silverhand Bralani Eladrin x2 Cormyrean War Wizard x2 Bat Familiar Man-At-Arms Xeph Warrior x2 Map: Dragondown Grotto
Pumpkin King (2-1 with a bye)
Tiefling Captain Thrall of Blackrazor Blood Ghost Berserker x2 Intellect Devourer Orc Wardrummer Hunting Hyena x2 Map: Hellspike
Zuran Alda (1-2)
Cleric of Order Tordek, Dwarf Champion Blessed Hunter Dragonmark Heir of Deneith Eberk, Adventurer Warforged Scout Bat Familiar Mialee, Elf Wizard Map: Caves of Chaos
Banana Samurai (1-2)
Lyrandar Skyfire Captain Centaur Hero Crow Shaman Nebin, Gnome Illusionist Mialee, Elf Wizard Devis, Half-Elf Bard Timber Wolf x2 Map: Magma Keep
Moose (1-2 with a bye)
Warpriest of Moradin Dwarf Ancestor Dwarf Sniper Large Ice Elemental Gold Dwarf Soldier x2 Hill Dwarf Warrior Map: Field of Ruin
Round 1:
Tomcat def. Moose Temysry def. Banana Samurai Zuran Alda def. Pumpkin King Zak X def. BYE
Round 2:
Zak X def. Temysry Tomcat def. Zuran Alda Banana Samurai def. Moose Pumpkin King def. BYE
Round 3:
Zak X def. Tomcat Temysry def. Zuran Alda Pumpkin King def. Banana Samurai Moose def. BYE
My first matchup of the night was against Banana Samurai with his LSC/Centaur Hero warband. He won his map and side so we played on Magma Keep. He started by buffing the Centaur, giving him the extra melee attack and +5 fire on his ranged attacks. I manage to get tile points in the first round while he doesn't. I managed to get tile points every round while I picked off some of his tile grabbers while staying relatively hidden from his Centaur. He didn't want to run up to engage since my spells could drop the Centaur in a round. Instead, he had to take a single shot and move every round trying to weaken my force while staying out of range of the lines. Eventually, I managed to get close enough and drop a number of lines on the Centaur. After winning an important initiative, I cast two rays which dropped the Centaur before he could get any melee attacks off. The rest of his warband besides the Lyrandar had also been eliminated by the lines so he conceded at this point.
My second matchup was against Zak X. I won my map but then lost side so I was on the dead side of the map. He started by buffing the Virtuous chargers with magic fangs and legions magic weapon. After that was all done, he cast invisibility to catch everyone except for one wolf. We both advanced rather cautiously and I got tile points in the first round while he didn't. In the second round, I won initiative and let him go first. I lost my Xeph tile grabber which dropped me to 8 activations. So, even with him going first, he got two activations after every one of my guys had activated. He used the VCs last and moved them out to the center area of the map within striking distance of pretty much my entire warband. He won the next initiative and activated both of them, dropping Storm and injuring a War Wizard. I managed to drop a couple lines and put some serious damage into the VCs and they both failed morale, routing all the way back next to Sune who was still invisible. Now his graycloaks went to town and rolled multiple crits against whatever they could see. I failed most of the resulting morale saves and lost on points shortly after.
My last match was against Zuran Alda who was running Tordek and a Blessed Hunter. He won map and side initiative and decided to start from the forest side of caves of chaos. He deferred first round initiative so I moved Storm out and cast confusion on his Blessed Hunter. Only the Cleric of Order and Mialee were affected. Unfortunately for him, they both continued to fail their saves for the next couple rounds. I also managed to get a tricky line of sight against his scout who he had placed in his own victory area. Both attacks from my Bralani hit and the scout routed off the board. We both advanced towards the openning with bloodrock. I dropped both whirlwind blasts against Tordek and the dragonmark though both passed their saves. His Blessed Hunter was just out of position and couldn't get a charge against my leading Bralani. After double-moving Storm into position, I moved both War Wizards up to drop another 50 damage on Tordek. He won the next initiative but couldn't finish off my Bralani and I managed to get silverfire on all three of his hitters. The dragonmark routed since it was out of command and he conceded the game. It was clear that I could drop Tordek and probably the Blessed Hunter as well if we had finished the round. Â | | A Proud Gelatinous Dude

| Another nice report Temysry. Thanks.  Interesting, no LE warabnds and lots of CG warbands.

| Thanks for always keeping us updated with reports, also as a side question, why do you use MaA over xeph warrior as your 3 point fodder in storm bands?
| | I am a nerd, originality and strangeness are good. Blind conformity and stupidity are unforgiveable. All else said, DnD FTW!!

It depends on how many 3-point fodder pieces I'm using. If there's only one, I'll usually go with the Xeph since it's really hard to pass up his speed. The times I choose a Man-At-Arms is when my map of choice allows me to use him primarily as a blocker. On Grotto, for instance, there are many spots where he can effectively block mid-beaters (especially large base ones) from engaging my spellcasters or ranged units. I agree that a Xeph can also fill the same role, but especially on maps with forest, he'll have 23AC with cover. This makes him particularly hard to take out with melee and ranged attacks.
