With other events going on involving many of the Gelatinous dudes, we only had a smattering of players show up at O2000 today.ÂEven with only 5 participants, we had a good time and two other players came by part way through looking for some fun games.ÂHere’s what happened:  The bands:  Temysry (3-0)  Cleric of Order Couatl Stone Giant Runecarver Sacred Watcher Standard Bearer Timber Wolf x3 Map: Drow Outpost  Nephlim (2-1 with a bye)  Cleric of Order Large Silver Dragon Sacred Watcher x2 Mialee, Elf Wizard Aasimar Fighter Man-At-Arms Map: Keep of the Fallen Kings  Bonelock (2-1)  Ultroloth Fire Giant Forgepriest Dragonmark Heir of Deneith Bat Familiar Greenspawn Sneak Timber Wolf Goblin Skirmisher Map: Drow Outpost  Tomcat (1-2 with a bye)  Storm Silverhand Cormyrean War Wizard x3 Gnome Trickster Air Mephit Bat Familiar x2 Xeph Warrior Map: Field of Ruin  Infurnace (1-2 with a bye)  Storm Silverhand Virtuous Charger Cormyrean War Wizard Shadowdancer x2 Bat Familiar Wild Elf Raider Mialee, Elf Wizard Map: Broken Demongate   Round 1: Temysry def. BYE   My first match this afternoon was against Tomcat’s Storm/CWWx3 warband which he played on Thursday night.ÂOur game that time was very close and I was able to eke out a win.ÂThis time, I was playing the other lawful giant expecting some elemental damage in the field.ÂOf course, the Couatl can only help so much against 30 damage lightning bolts and 25 damage rays.ÂI won my map so we played on Drow Outpost.ÂI lost side and started from the outpost side.ÂWe both advanced rather slowly with him going invisible.ÂI moved a Timber wolf the long way around to try and take out a bat or two.ÂI kept my warband spread out enough so that he couldn’t catch more than 2 in a line if I lost initiative in round 2.ÂThe second round was more of the same and after my sacred watcher dealt 10 damage to his Air Mephit, it passed its morale save and flew away to safety.ÂHe took the opportunity to kill two of my Timber Wolves while staying mostly hidden on his side of the board.ÂHe didn’t end up getting tile points that round so we were tied 20-20.ÂThe next round had him dropping a number of lines on my figs but thanks to the Couatl and my two big guys having major resistance, the damage was minimal.ÂI also moved up to drop the symbol on the victory area.ÂThe score becomes 30-30 when he double moves the still invisible Air Mephit to the outpost victory area.ÂSince neither of us were really willing to engage and were playing somewhat slowly, time got called during the next round and we only ended up playing 5 rounds.ÂHe took a calculated risk and moved up a War Wizard to route my last timber wolf putting him up by 5 points.ÂRouting a creature wouldn’t be enough for me to win, so I had to kill something.ÂMy Standard Bearer attacked his Mephit and missed.ÂThen my sacred watcher did the same and managed to connect.ÂDespite being a low scoring game, it was quite exciting and we both wished we had more time to finish it.ÂFinal score: 63-45.   My second match-up was against Infurnace with whom I rarely get the opportunity to play.ÂI believe the last time we played was a nail-biter game in the Bloodwar release tournament.ÂAnyway – he was playing a CG PORC band that looked like it could be quite dangerous.ÂI won both my map and side, setting up in the cave this time.ÂAfter winning first round initiative I moved up the Giant and made my ranged attack against his Virtuous Charger which connected for 20 damage and put 10 into both of his shadowdancers, Storm, Mialee and the Wild Elf Raider.ÂI took another shot via Snake’s Swiftness but missed.ÂWe both grabbed tile points.ÂIn the second round, I used the Couatl to ground his bat and the Virtuous Charger which had just received flight from Storm.ÂI also charged his Wild Elf Raider with a wolf to take it out.ÂWith all of my wolves in the way, his Virtuous Charger couldn’t get near the meat of my band quickly.ÂIn the next round, I won initiative again allowing me to make an aggressive move with the Stone Giant to drop his symbol adjacent to the Virtuous Charger and both Shadow dancers.ÂOnly one shadow dancer passed the initial save and things were starting to look grim for him – especially since the Stun effectively ruins two full rounds for that creature.ÂFrom there, I used a SS to drop a shadow dancer to 15 hp (he was fearless thanks to Storm).ÂOn the next round, my Couatl finished him off with a sonic orb while my giant beat on the poor Virtuous Charger.ÂEven with the heals available, he was reduced to 10 hp by the time he unstunned.ÂStorm joined the action while the CWW tried to slide the giant into a pit.ÂAfter that, lightning bolts took their toll and routed both the Standard Bearer and the CoO.ÂThey both rallied the next round and three attacks from the giant left Storm dead.ÂAfter that it was just mop up since my giant had only just got to his MC and passed the save.   My third match was against Nephlim and his Large Silver Dragon.ÂAfter winning map and side initiative I was again playing from the cave side of Drow Outpost.ÂHe won initiative but deferred so I took my two shots at his leading pieces, taking out all of his fodder and dealing a total of 20 collateral damage to his dragon since both attacks hit.ÂHe gave the Dragon +2 saves and flew it to the central victory area adjacent to my wolf.ÂIn the second round, I won initiative and attacked the dragon with my doomed wolf.ÂHe rolled a natural 20 to put another 10 damage into him.ÂI then continued to buff my giant with major resistance.ÂHe responded by moving down into the corridor near my warband and used his cold breath weapon.ÂMy CoO and Standard bearer didn’t survive and the Giant took the full 25 damage while the Couatl only took 5 after making the save.ÂNow I flanked the Dragon with my Sacred Watcher and charged him with the giant, connecting for another 25 damage.ÂAfter one more hit with a SS, the Dragon was quickly reduced to 70 hp.ÂThe game was going rather slowly, and it felt like it might get called on time even before I could kill the dragon if every attack hit so I tried to pick up the pace.ÂHe used the rest of his warband to hunt down some of my tile-grabbers and harass my flanking SW.ÂIn the following round, I connected with 2 of my three attacks to drop the dragon to 20 hp.ÂHe used his paralysis breath to catch both the giant and Couatl but they both thankfully made their saves.ÂIn the next round, he won init and attacked the giant but only connected once – not enough for a morale save.ÂI retaliated by killing off the dragon with the giant and trying to hurt his nearest SW with a sonic orb (and failed).ÂAfter that, I routed his CoO who later rallied, I then started flying my Couatl over to the central victory area and finished off his CoO with a sonic orb.ÂOver the last 3-4 rounds, Mialee and one of my Timber Wolves were going toe-to-toe with neither one hitting.ÂEventually the Couatl had to come in and finish her off and the tile points put me over 200 without having to deal with the SWs. |
