Qualifier Statistics

This thread is collection of Statistics for the 'Top 4' warbands played at each qualifier during the 2007 Qualifier season. It uses the excellent Qualifier Results threads from both Maxminis (Sirohk) and Hordlings (Mrs. Rune) as its basis for all Statistics. Without those threads this thread could not exist. In this post below you will find a unified “Qualifier Results” list in a format I created in order to better create statistics. It includes things like Commander ratings, point costs of warbands, and etc.

Notes:
1) The UK Championships are not "qualifiers" so are not included.
2) Although D&D Experience was/is a qualifier for the 2007 season, it was a Bloodwar Qualifier and not an Unhallowed Qualifier. As such the ‘Meta-game’ for the warbands is different and is not included in these statistics.
3) These Statistics look only at the Top 4 warbands of each qualifier as opposed to the entire field. It only looks at the “winners” and not at which warbands the winners had to face. Nor does it take into consideration warbands that ‘would have’ placed in the Top 4 but dropped. Consider this a look at what the top players are playing. If anyone wishes to create and maintain a list of the entire field at all qualifiers I strongly encourage them to do so, as what it would show would be quite different than what these statistics show.

- 3 Qualifiers added to the stats

Thoughts to-date:
1) Storm and Storm/Virtuous Charger warbands continue to take the Qualifiers by… (ahem) storm!  CG warbands represent 50% (20 out of 40) of the field. Of that Storm warbands are 17 out of the 20 (85%) and out of all the Storm warbands, Storm/VC represent 11 of those 17 (64%). Of CG Storm/VC is 11 of 20 (55%) and out of all warbands of all factions Storm/VC is 11 of 40 or 27.5% of ALL warbands. That means that there an average of 1 Storm/VC warband at every qualifier to date!
2) CG swept one qualifier will all of the top 4 being CG. (3 Storm and a CoCL)
3) As CG gains ground, LG lost the most ground with only 1 out of 12 new top 4 warbands (5 out of all 40 warbands). A new build not seen in the top 4’s till now, a Solar warband.
4) CE continues to lose ground to CG, with only 2 more top 4 warbands, both with Large Blacks. The trend of CE not making the top 4 without a Large Black continues, as well as the Orc Wardrumer continuing to not show up in the top 4.
5) Top 4 MVP used:
- 24 Bat Familiars in 21 warbands
- 23 Shadowdancers in 9 warbands
- 22 Xeph Warriors in 15 warbands
- 20 Large Black Dragons in 8 warbands
6) Some more duplication in warband core builds, to be expected at this point in the qualifiers. Still new builds showing up. 4 cores each have 3 warbands and 2 cores have 2 warbands.
7) Lawful vs. Chaotic is at 12 to 28 (30% to 70%) and Good vs. Evil is at 25 to 15 (62.5% to 37.5%).
Constructs and Undead continue to fail to show up in any numbers in the top 4.
9) Hellspike, Dragondown Grotto, & King's Road represent 42.5% of all maps used. If your warband is an autoloss on one of these maps, odds are you are not going to make the top 4.
10) The Average Top 4 warband has 8 Activations/Figures, a single Commander 4 (usually Storm), is at 200 points, has only living creatures, is most likely CG, and likely uses Hellspike, Dragondown Grotto, or King's Road for its map. Of the 8 creatures in the average top 4 warband only 6 are different from each other (4 unique and 2 doubles).

Apr 26th Edit Update
Massive Changes! All Stats re-tallied from scratch. Artifacts from prior inclusion of UK Championship removed (UK not included).

Here are my thoughts to-date:
1) Storm + Virtuous Charger warbands seem to be the most common (7 out of 12 CG warbands or 25% of ALL top 4 warbands), with Storm warbands taking 10 out of 12 CG warbands qualified or ~1/3 of all top 4 warbands
2) No CE warband has made the 'Top 4' without a Large Black Dragon
3) Orc Wardrumers, once considered an 'auto-include' (or broken/too powerful, needs banning) have only showed up in 1 of the 6 CE Top 4 Warbands.
4) Chaotic Warbands vs. Lawful warbands are at 18 to 10 (~2/3 Chaotic).
5) The Bat Familiar is the most commonly played fodder piece at 17 used in 14 warbands of all factions. This means the Bat Familiar is in just over half of all warbands!
6) Out of 28 warbands there are only 3 sets of duplicates that have the same "core". This diversity would seem to indicate (to me at least) a health ‘Meta’.
7) Very few Undead/Constructs are being used.
8 ) Dragondown Grotto (5), Hellspike (5) & King's Road (4) comprise 19 out the 28 warband maps.
9) The average warband 8.18 Activations
10) The Average warband has 8 creatures, has one commander with a 4 commander rating and is 200 points.

There be some good stuff there.  Some comments -

1) CG (Storm PORC) is definately shining and the leader of the pack so far.�
2) Followed closely by CE (mainly LBD warbands).�
3) And some Ultraloth / FGFP warbands.  
4) Grotto and Hellspike are the top map winners.�

It will be interesting to see if the new maps start showing up in the upcoming qualifiers.�

I see where you are coming from, and I agree that it may skew results somewhat.

However how is that different than a small qualifier of say less than 10 people in a small isolated meta (Edmonton AB for example last year)? the top four in meta like that may not be representive of the over all meta.

Rather than try and make judgement calls (this is good this isnt) these statistics are just what they say they are. The qualifying warbands from each qualifier (Top 4's).

Some very good points there!

I agree that it would be nice to see which warbands the "Top 4" had to face on the way to becoming "Top 4". However data is only really available on the "Top 4" at this point. Also the "Top 4" really are the 'warbands to beat'.
