There has been a bit of discussion in the Hordelings Illinois group about a Midwest Open for fall.  Myself, Thousandsofminis, and Gryfalia would like to propose our regional game convention, Flatcon, as a location for this event.Â

Flatcon is three days of gaming fun from October 5th-7th 2007 at the Interstate Center in Bloomington, IL.  More information can be found at www.Flatcon.com

We think Flatcon would be a good place for the Midwest Open for many reasons:

We are very centrally located in Bloomington, IL - about an equal time drive as Chicago for those north once you consider Chicago traffic, pretty equal from east and west, and closer from the south.

The con has a very low fee - $15 - and runs a very nice slate of events including a many Verbobonc regional and Core Living Greyhawk mods.  There are also many vendors including our own Thousandsofminis, Adam Hubbard.

There is ample clean but inexpensive lodging next to the convention hall for those who want to come for more than the day.

The con has a nice amount of room and would be able to handle any number of players who want to attend.

Gryfalia's Aerie, our local store, and Hubb's Wholesale, Adam Hubbard's Ebay store, are willing to sponsor the event.

Our idea for a slate of events is an Epic constructed event Friday night, a 200 Point constructed 'main event' on Saturday, and a sealed event on Sunday so there are minis events every day.  We are also looking at alternate format second chance events to begin after the third round of the main events Saturday and Sunday.

We welcome your input and interest.  If there seems to be a number of players who are interested we will go ahead with our plans for the con.

I am very tentatively interested. I think this is about a 6-hour drive for me, but I have a friend in Peoria, so, I might be able to swing something.

However, it's also the weekend of my 40th birthday, so I might have preior engagements.

I'd definitely be interested in coming for this.

Also Dave, if it would help we could probably set up a carpool from the Fort Wayne area down if interested, maybe go as far as renting a van if we get enough interested?

We should rent a huge bus and have a tourning minis game on the road on the way there.

Just to clarify something..The con isn't $15, it's $18 pre-reg and $20 at the door. If my memory is correct.

RR up there is looking at the old, uncorrected flyer. And the hotel, while certainly not 'far' is not right next door. A good 10 minute walk, or a 2 minute (tops) car ride. There are, of course, many other hotels nearby too, not to mention many food choices.

Ah, thanks for noticing that Ken, I apologize.  I had not seen that they were raising the price a bit.  It's still a very nice and affordable con with lots of stuff to do (and plenty of minis play.)
