| My (Jeremy Foster) warband was: Half-orc Paladin, Shield Guardian, Dragonmark Heir, Dwarven Artificer, Sacred Watcher x2, Aramil, and a Bat Familiar. I took an early loss to Chris (Silent G) in the first round, when he ran a TW up and dropped a beautifully placed fireball that took out Aramil and spread some damage around. After that, I just couldn't get an edge on points and it was pretty tough to base Vlaakith. He's running a great band that had a couple of cursed spirits and some fodder to round it out. My 2nd and 3rd round matches were against a Pit Fiend/Steel Predator combo that I outactivated and routed and a Storm/Mounted Paladin band that ended once I was able to swarm onto the paladin. 4th round was really tight against a trip black band run by Ben Iglauer; after some serious beat-down on both sides, I was able to win on tiles and outpointed him by the cost of my bat - 200 to 194. 5th match was also pretty tight against a Runecarver/Inquisitor/CWW/SW band. Emily (Chris's fiance') also performed very well and just missed the top 4 with Ultroforge.Â
In the top 4, I got matched up against Chris again on his map (sewers). He wisely split the members of his band that threatened my human members, so I ended up with my SG base to base against his Dire Wolf and the SW flanking, and was forced to take a gamble on his New Thrall ability with my Heir. By this time it was pretty late (6 rounds and nearly 9 hours after most of us had arrived), and James had already made Gencon plans so he was kind enough to concede the final match, which was fortunate for me because his Couatl/Marut had gone undefeated throughout the entire day.  The dice were kind and the gamble paid off. A special thanks to James for his generosity, Chris for his sportsmanship and Jim (Kyrin) for his contribution of a very impressive dracolich mini as the trophy.Â

| When people drop I think they should just say they drop and play the match out anyway... a lot better for statistical analysis... just my observation...
That Vlaakith band sounds near the exact one I've been trying and having success with... Any word on her Vs. ultroforge and Triple black... I know both are tough but honestly think triple black may be worse!!!

| James Clesi here.
I ran Marut, Couatl, mialee, timber wolf, sacred watcher x2, cleric of order, and aramil on drow outpost. This is the exact army I used last year too.
I had looked at the qualifier results and I saw one thing in common with about all the top fours, everyone had low to hit bonuses.
So I decided if I played I'd play what I took second with last year knowing I'd do really well.
The last time I played minis was at gencon last year. So I knew if I lost it would have been because of a new map or some new mini that I was unfamiliar with.
I went undefeated. Marut only died 1 time and it was in the top 4 very early I managed to win on victory points still in an extremely close game.
I wish wizards would let us turn down prizes so we could play things out and pass the prizes down if we don’t want or need them. I will be auto qualified because I have an extremely high rating in minis. But I still want to play in tournaments. I should not have to feel bad for playing at a tournament and stopping another deserving player from qualifying.
As for playing it out with Jeremy after I dropped. I would have liked to but it had been a really long day and I had other plans. I really liked my chances of winning but we will never know.
Overall I think I had what I'd call 1 close game where I actually needed to keep track of victory points. That was my second game with Jim. In our first game all I can say is his dice were not with him.
My game with Chris was semi close but he was turtling in the ratfang sewers and my mighty sacred watchers managed to survive in that hell hole for 4+ turns with his Vladkith, Thrall, Vampiric Dire Wolf. All trying to kill them but the watchers ended up on top killing his vladkith. I still would have won if my watchers both died because marut was getting tile points and he was not. It would have been close though.
I had some other good matches but none that I remember being to close. My opponents did not make many mistakes its just that marut is that good and when your LBD needs a 17 a 19 and a 19 to hit it may seem like your having bad luck but your not.

| Well God***it, *that* cat is out of the bag. I've been holding onto my band in secret for so frickin' long, and now Jeremy has to go and give away the larger part of it ;-). At least I still have one surprise left. Sigh!
Whatever, see you guys at the Toronto qualifier this weekend, where my Half-Orc Pally will commence the pwnage on all your Shadowdancerin', Black Dragonin' butts :-).
Well done Jeremy! | | | |

| I'm trying to get the official records, but here's what I have so far:
Jeremy Foster (Elurian)-- Half-orc Paladin, Shield Guardian, Dragonmark Heir, Dwarven Artificer, Sacred Watcher x2, Aramil, and Bat Familiar on Broken Demongate?
James Clesi (gekadown)-- Marut, Couatl, Mialee, Timber Wolf, Sacred Watcher x2, Cleric of Order, and Aramil on Drow Outpost
Chris Craig (SilentG) -- Vlaakith, Thrall of Blackrazor, Cursed Spirit x2, Timber Wolf, Orc Warrior, and Vampiric Dire Wolf on Ratfang Sewers. (Oh, and he had a Marilith in his warband for one match... grumble...)
Jim Heath (aka me)-- Marilith, Thrall of Blackrazor, Large Black Dragon, Tiefling Blademaster, Hunting Hyena x2, Gnoll on Teleport Temple
Thanks for the kind words Mr. Clesi. Glad I gave you a good match. The offending d20 has been trashed -- hopefully the others will take the warning.

| Congrats to all who qualified. Now if I can only pull off a miracle and qualify in Ypsilanti (against a field, I'm sure, of 40+ players--sigh), then I may see some of you at the championship.

| Thanks, Nightmoor! I sat on my band for months too, just worried that somebody was gonna snake it or plan to counter it. Glad our tourney was before yours.  The band's a lot of fun, and really versatile. Good luck in Toronto. One quick tip I learned the hard way in Vassal a few nights ago; I thought my relative immunity to sneak attack on the guardian and watchers would make Storm/Dancers a cake-walk, but the wild-elf warsinger can still turn them into a headache on maps with open LoS. If I match up against them again, both watchers are going to go eat that singer early, even if they eat a couple of dirges with it. | | | |

| | Woot Elurian!! Tested a few games against this with him, glad to see him do well. Alas, I wish I could be in Toronto... stupid work... stupid long weekend. | | Champion of the Kender ckissee - "providing TPK's since 2007" Albert Einstein never once said that if the bees disappeared, "man would have only four years of life left" but the theory is a scary prospect. | |
