| The Thursday Knights have gathered again and this time we have a visitor from the other side of the country. It seems Beer Baron who had visited us once before is going to be in Halifax for quite a while so you can expect to see him in the coming reports (and probably winning his fair share as well!). It was our monthly epic tournament and almost everyone seemed to want to try out some of the new ones. I'm quite suprised not to have seen an epic ultroloth yet... maybe next time around. Anyway - here's what happened:
The bands:
Beer Baron (2-0)
Mind Flayer Dark Naga Beholder x4 Beholder Lich Green Dragon Map: Dragondown Grotto
Temysry (1-1)
Ryld Argith Epic Marilith Epic Thrall of Blackrazor Orc Wardrummer Cursed Spirit Hunting Hyena Orc Warrior x2 Map: Teleport Temple
Orcdoubleax (1-1)
Aspect of Bahamut Elminster of Shadowdale Lyrandar Skyfire Captain Gnome Trickster Map: Teleport Temple
Zuran Alda (1-1)
Cleric of Order Epic Stone Giant Runecarver Epic Slaughterstone Eviscerator Eberk, Adventurer Cleric of Moradin Aramil, Adventurer Bat Familiar Timber Wolf Map: Frostfell Rift
Zak X (1-1)
Warpriest of Moradin Knight of the Chalice Couatl Epic Stone Giant Runecarver Arcane Ballista Kolyarut Half-Orc Spy Dwarf Artificer Map: Dragondown Grotto
Bonelock (0-2)
Epic Werewolf Lord Epic Thrall of Blackrazor Huge Fiendish Spider Orc Wizard Orc Wardrummer Orc Warrior x2 Map: Teleport Temple
Round 1: Beer Baron def. Orcdoubleax Temysry def. Zak X Zuran Alda def. Bonelock
Round 2: Beer Baron def. Temysry Orcdoubleax def. Zuran Alda Zak X def. Bonelock
Well - my first matchup was against Zak X and the Epic Stone Giant and his Ballista. The first round, we both got tile points and I spread out to grab teleporters. Since most of his warband was rather slow, he opted to keep everyone together and not get to the teleporters. In the second round, he grabbed his closest teleporter with the Knight of the Chalice and as my last pair of activations, I teleported the Thrall in and used my unholy haste to hit it twice and kill it. This got me 20 more hitpoints and more importantly freed the teleporter. The marilith teleports in, uses enhanced mobility and starts beating on things. I win initiative the next round and I believe that was enough to take out the Ballista, the Warpriest, the Half-Orc Spy and the Kolyarut was reduced to 10 hp. After that, it was basically my two beaters versus his giant. He dished out a ton of damage and the Marilith failed it's morale save (it always seems to do that to me). Thankfully it later rallied and I eventually took down the giant, but not until both of my beaters were reduced to being within a hit or two of death.
The second round was short and sweet. I lost map and side init despite being CR8 vs CR4. I was now faced with the prospect of playing my non-flying melee band against 5 beholders on dragondown grotto. My Marilith eventually failed a morale save from damage and after passing 4 disintegrate saves, finally failed one after rallying. My Thrall was beat up as well, and I hadn't even hit a beholder yet. I conceded at this point, my only kill being his green dragon.
Since Beer Baron was the only undefeated player at this point, the tournament was over and he was declared the winner. Next week, it's back to 200 points. The choices, the choices...

| | Yeah, someone played 5 beholders and a pair of dark nagas at our last epic tournament. Thank goodness I left that helmed horror in my warband. And that he failed a decent number of bw saves. | |
