"Champion of the Centaur Commander. Knight of the Gnoll Druid. Vindicated Champion of the Dragon Wrought Kobold!

06/21/2007 4:04 PM

Hi there.  I was hoping tournament organizer tools would have the info I was looking for, but I see no one has posted here for 6 months.  What I need is a list of tournament legal maps, both for 100/200 point games and epic games.  Which maps are illegal?  Where did the maps originate from (fantastic locations, starter sets, dragon mag and so on)?  What other maps are available for "just for fun" games (I remember the "Dragon's Hoard" map).

What are the rules errata and terrain clarifications for these maps.

If someone can compile this, or point me in the direction I can find this info, I would be grateful.

I can modify this thread and start compiling the info here also, but first I have to find it.

Cheers,

The Beer Baron

By Orion72 on the WotC boards:

Warband Building 101: Choosing A Map
*IN PROGRESS*

It's important to remember that your map is part of your warband, just as much as your commander or beaters are. Like any other part of your band, your map should be one that either enhances a strength, covers up a weakness, or ideally does both.

Most players build a band first, then wonder what map they should play it on. A better method is to have a map already in mind when building your band. That way, you aren't including figures that might otherwise work well with your band, but won't work on your map. For example, let's say you have a Marilith and some other CE beaters, and you've chosen the Hellspike for its ability to protect them from ranged attacks and the Marilith's ability to charge or use Reach through the smoke. The last thing you want to do now is throw in a Green Slaad. Its two sight spells will be wasted without line of sight to your enemies, which limits its already marginal usefulness.

List of maps:

Hellspike Prison:
Magma Keep
Mushroom Cavern
Hellspike (Epic)

Fane of the Drow:
Mithral Mines
Fane of Lolth
Drow Enclave
Tomb of Queen Peregrine (Epic)

Dragon magazine #337:
Drow Outpost

War Drums starter set:
Dragon Shrine
Broken Demongate
Teleport Temple (Epic)
Field of Ruin (Epic)

Fields of Ruin:
Keep of Fallen Kings I
Dungeon of Blood
King's Road (Epic)

Dragondown Grotto:
Dragon Graveyard
Forest Cliff Lair
Dragondown Grotto (Epic)

Frostfell Rift:
Hailstorm Tower
Caves of Chaos
Frostfell Rift (Epic)

Icons: Gargantuan Blue Dragon:
Blue Dragon Lair

City of Peril:
Ratfang Sewers
Thieves' Quarter
Market Square

All the errata and FAQ information is available on the WotC errata/FAQ page.

You can dig through that and put the correct map stuff with their respective maps if you want.  That would be a nice resource.

Oh, and I can delete these posts of mine, once you get this thread set up how you'd like so it's cleaner.

Vrecknidj - Thanks! That's the list I was looking for. I'll tune it up and put it in the first post.

FYI (everyone)- If you haven't read about the Night Below posters, there is a copy of the Drow Outpost map on the reverse side. I know this map has been hard to find. It is nice that WOTC recognises this and made about 20,000 copies available. Let's hope they keep it up.
