| Hi, to all friends of USA, Canada,
Europe, Asia and specially to Latin America. I
come here to make a small report of the SECOND national tournament of D&D
miniatures of Brasil wich happened 7th and 8th of July. On the first tournament
we had the amazing number of 52 players (considering that at the same time was
happening a World Cup game with our team at the same time!!). This year we were
able to gather 60 players (with no World Cup to hinder us)!
I might be wrong, but I've watched all qualifiers since
D&D XP to the European Tournament (wich had 44 players) e based on this I
can say that the Brazilian Tournament is the second biggest tournament losing
only to those played at Gen Con. Even if I'm wrong, I can still say we are the
Top 5.
Unfortunately, this wasn't enough to make a qualifier here
in Brazil or Latin America. I honestly don't have the sale numbers of Brazil. Don't
know how many boosters are sold or how much is the profit our country provides
to this market, but I can say we have many players, organized tournaments on a
regular basis and good players willing to play on foreign lands!
I'd like to give you the numbers of our tournament with
the top 16 warbands, the numbers of each faction and their basic formation.
There were 60 players and 5 swiss rounds on first day, followed by a single
elimination with the Top 32. We had a good variety of warbands on the Top 32,
but after the first round, there was a strong evidence of the metagame of the
moment (because of the date, no Night Below miniatures on this tournament).
Finnaly I'd like to ask the support of all who are going
to Gen Con to our small cause. We are trying to deal with this issue directly
with our Wizards publisher here in Brazil, but some kind of support
from inside Wizards would be great. We also ask that this kind of support be
also to the other countries of Latin America.
I'm sure that there will be players with a lot to add to the Gen Con
tournament, be it for the cultural differences, or even for the increase of the
tournament. Be sure we are going there to win!!
So, that's it. Thanks and make any comments or suggestions
or just to support our cause. If you want to know our community, please go to: www.d20minis.net To see a lot of photos, open the link: http://www.d20minis.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=14282&start=0Portuguese: Olá
possivelmente no top 5!
jogadores, campeonatos regulares e organizados e principalmente bons jogadores
Estamos tentando tratar a questão diretamente
fortalecimento do campeonato.

| from other DDM forum:
Thurbal said: Hi to you !
I first want to congrats you and your pals for this big event. i'm actually a tournament organiser of the montreal open and I understand i hard it is to work without the help of WoTC.
But we at least have our qualifer [with at least 40 person eatch year]...
I hope you'll get your's ans that WoTC will finaly support this product all over the world.
Good luck.
But i was talking about this with some friend who helped me organise the montreal open [we managed to get 1k $ in prize and a great amount of d&d materials without wotc's help]. It woulb be so great if we could organise a open international tour event throught the year.
There seems to be something like 4 big comunity of ddm player [around 50 regular player]: montreal, brazil, california, europe.
The way we thought of it was there would be 4 open event a year in those 4 places with:
- Bigger K value - repaint trophees [top 4] - air plane ticket for the next international open Ώst or 1ts and 2nd] - 1k cash prize for top 4 or more. - ddm materials [boosters to top 8 and random] - entry fee ⎥$-35$]
It may seems alot but if we managed to do it in montreal [without the help of Wotc but without buying ticket] we surely could do something international if we could get the help of Wotc and the interest of other organisers.
Paladine says: *Sorry for the poor english, but it´s not our primary language.
Thurbal, Thank you for your support. If you or any member of this forum can send these words for Ian Richards or other guy of mini’s team, that would be great.
Again, I don’t have the numbers, so I can’t prove it, but Brazil is probably the second country, when you count number of active players (losing only to USA) and I have to say we have a lot of problems to keep the hobby growing.
First, Brazil doesn’t have tradition in board or miniatures games, and then we have few game stores. Second, most of the owners of these stores don’t organize the championships. We, players, have to do all the hard work. Some players do not have a game store in the next 100 miles, so they have to import everything of USA, Canada or Brazilian stores of other states.
After this, we have some problems with our Wizards’ publisher. Portuguese and Spanish know it. It’s Devir (www.devir.com.br). But brazilian devir it’s not so good as Europe one. We have few RPG books for year and miniatures boosters with expensive prices (something like 3 times the price the americans pay).
I´m not saying Devir is pure evil, after all it pays importation taxes and the shipping price, but these prices obligate many players to buy directly from USA and Devir doesn´t get the money it waited. So it also doesn’t give the support we want.
And for the distance, the air ticket price and hotel, we won’t play in Gen Con, unless we have a qualifier. I think we have enough players for a qualifier at least with 2 air tickets Ώst and 2nd ]. This is what we really need, everything beyond this would be super great.
Well, we’re not here to cry, but to show the world DDM community we have a great championship and a lot of organized players. And just now we’re planning some kind of national league, which will have at least 3 big championships in a year. So, now, we ask support to take our cause to Wizards and we’re going to work with Devir.
Thank you again for your support.

| Brazil have the second biggest RPG event of the World, the EIRPG, who join near to 10.000 people every year to São Paulo.
In that event in the last two years we have some of the biggest DDM championships in the Whole World, and that, I guess, is a thing that must to be noted from the WotC. After all, we play their game.

| Congratulations to all players, great tournament.
It is a shame that not even the top 4 are not automatically qualified at GenCon. I seriously hope that this will change, since the Europeans get invitations and in Europe we had less players all in all. Maybe next year call it "South America Championship" and try hard to get support by Wizards.
