DDM Players,

With the end of GenCon SoCal, a gap has opened in that timeframe for a larger scale minis event. Dwayne ( Tried ) and his crew have been looking at a Vegas Open ( seems like forever ) to help fill that gap.Â

Gaming and Vegas just seem to go together. Recently, a new convention has been put into the works for October (about 3 weeks earlier than the Vegas Open was planned for): NeonCon (http://www.neoncon.com/). (Oct 13 weekend)

I was contacted to help setup a DDM floor, with demos and events. Dwayne was put in contact with me, and together we feel that moving the Vegas Open into NeonCon could  provide a number of benefits, most of which will include lessening overhead of venue, floor space, and variety of events (for the non-DDM folks you may bring).

Currently, we are looking at running a number of DDM events.   These include general stuff, like demos for new players,  throughout the weekend (Fri-Sun), the Las Vegas Open (Western Regional Championship) itself on on Sat(200pt Constructed), a Limited event similar to the community draft (Sat or Sun) and an Epic event (Sat or Sun).

Depending on demand and support, we can possibly sneak in another event or two.  Suggestions have been made, for example,  for a 50 point duels format, a secondary constructed event for those dropping from the Open, and possibly some minis-delve like events.  We may not run all these events, but certainly will run several.  The idea is to have not only a highly competitive event (the open) but also events for those players who aren’t concerned with the competitive scene.

We would also organize a SWM section, for those cross-over players. Combined with the rest of the Con and Vegas, there should be enough things to do and see…

Prize support is always a big issue.  Currently it is being negotiated and will most likely include a few boosters for the smaller event winners, with more prizes going to the Open’s Top 4 (repaints are a standard award).

At this point, we would like to get community feedback.

1. Is this Con at a good time (distanced from GenCon/XP and other events)?

2. Is this a good location (Vegas is easy to fly in and out of, as well as a moderate drive for the West Coast folks)?

2.  Does having the Open at a Con (or just in Vegas) help increase the odds of your attendance?

3.  Over and above the Con entry fee, what sort of ratio of event entry/fee to prize support would you expect, and at what point would these entice or hinder your desire to attend?Â

4.   Most importantly, if we do it this year – if we build it – will you come?

Thanks all, and spread the word!

- Randal (Jai on H boards, Jailoco on others), Dwayne (Tried (on MM, H and WotC boardss)

Let it be.

The problem for me is financing. This is one of those events that I'd have to have things paid for in order for me to attend. It takes me until at least this time frame to have paid off my GenCon debt (maybe this year I'll eBay my swag...).

Otherwise, yes, this would be good.

I might be up for it. This year I'm taped out, but if I know about it for future years, I could definitely squeeze it in there. This is Early October, right? As long as it stays at least 2-3 weeks away from the 29th 9my anniversary) I should be able to make it.

I'm going to try my darndest to make it.  Even if I don't go I would be willing to do some painting for the prize support.

NOTICE!

One quick note for the tournies.

NeonCon has a policy where it does not like charging for events aside from the NeonCon entry. We are trying to change that for a couple reasons.

First, I would like to have top rate prize support, and make this a great event for both this year and next.
Paint brushes are sloshing even as we speak, as repaints are being prepared!

Second, I need to charge for the sealed boosters we distribute for the limited event.

So, the LVO now has a voluntary entry fee of 15 bucks.
This will get you a swag bag with promos in it, (including black robe raistlin who is selling for 25 online anyway), faction dice, scorepad, DDM pencils, etc, and automatic entry in the second chance tourney if you drop from the first after round three or four (We'll declare a decision time at the show - this is typically after round 3 or 4.)

The Limited tourney has a $25 entry fee, which gets you two boosters and prize support.
(If you bring two sealed boosters and five bucks, we can negotiate something).

All other events will remain free with neoncon entry.

Let it be.

Wow, sounds great and I would definately like to attend.Â

But Las Vegas is a LONG way from Buffalo NY.  And finances are tight right now (bought a new house and closing in a month, and can't sell old house).  On top of that likely moving shortly after closing right around this con time.Â

So hopefully this is one convention that does well this year and maybe more of us can wind up plans for attending next year and keep growing it bigger and larger.Â

Thanks for the post and information.Â

A couple changes from those discussed previously;

Las Vegas Open; (Premier Event)
NeonCon will sponsor/offset the cost of the Las Vegas Open. The Cost will now only be $5.00 rather than the 15.00 advertised, which will help with prize support. All other events are now free with con entry. Woohoo!

BTW, we have some great repaints coming from Runelord and Smithmeg, including dragons, mounted figures, and combinations therein! I believe Caustic Mouse has signed up as well. We are hoping to give out 6-7 repaints for the DDM events (4 for the LVO open alone!) and more for the SWM events.

Sealed Events:
We will have a vendor onsight, who will sell boosters (at a discount) for the sealed events from a sealed case. This will be the only cost associated with the tourney.

Beginners Events (NEW):
Bring that friend/spouse that's DDM-curious. We supply a beginner-friendly tourney, judge advisors, and a (mostly uncommons) warband they get to keep!

Expected Numbers:
Conservatively, we expect 20-30 from AZ,CA,NV & UT!
