Just Paul Mills and myself played at Games of Berkeley last night so those going to GenCon must wanna keep their warbands pretty secret!

We did manage to have a spot of fun, however. I played "Team Vol" vs. Paul's warband I've affectionately named "Ryld's CONE-u-copia".

"Team Vol" on Ratfang Sewers
Lady Vol
Maug
(Medium) Green Dragon
Dark Moon Monk
Bat Familiar
4x Warrior Skeleton = 200pts, 9 activations

Kind of a "theme" band with the Green Dragon on Lady Vol's team. This is a fairly straight forward band - DMMonk and the Bat give the Maug and the Green Dragon Magic Weapon and then act as tile grabbers and flankers. The Maug is my hitter and the WSkeletons are there to go BOOM. I enjoyed playing the Green Dragon once again, a remarkable precision instrument.

"Ryld's CONE-ucopia" on Market Square
Ryld Argith
Shadow Dragon
Large Black Dragon
3x Fire Mephit
2x Krenshar = 8 activations and I believe 200 points.

So... many... CONES... and a LINE!

Well, I won two initiatives the entire skirmish, but they did turn out to be important. First off, I won map initiative, yay Ratfang Sewers! He won side initiative and had me set up first. I set up all my skeletons in one area and all my better pieces, including Vol in the other start area - and I prayed I won the first initiative, and I did! DMMonk cast Magic Weapon on the Maug and then got out of there, followed by the Maug moving just outside of the start area to provide less targets for a first round Shadow CONE!

Well, this proved important as Paul indeed held off with the ShD, then using him to jump in and ambush my Bat and GrD, which I moved away as soon as possible. The first round ended with our "fodder" well spaced and my GrD the only one earning VP the first round.

Like I said, I only won two initiatives and they'd already passed. I lost three of my WSk to two mephit cones, he lost a Krenshar and a mephit to my GrD cone. Vol double moved to base Ryld and prevent him from a third round activation.

Third, and final round (we were playing slower with new bands) ended with Vol moving to pin the LBlD, the GrD was taken out by the LBlD and the LShD, and the final Mephit and Krenshar were destroyed.

Resulting score, "Team Vol" with 70 points, and "Ryld's CONE-ucopia" with 66 points - man that first round VP grab was important! We did play out a 4th round and "Team Vol" managed to make the LBlD route off the board while "R.C." only managed to take out the DMMonk. All in all a fun game with fun and effective Warbands!

PS - I probably should have made this statement before the event (possible would have had some competitors show up), but I wouldn't have posted any potential competitor's warband!

Good luck to everyone competing at GenCon - we're cheering you on from home!
