After a few consecutive tournaments seeing Epic Raistlin, I practiced with Epic Eliminster to see if he could beat Raistlin. Level 20 is important, he will make almost all of his saves, and baleful teleport means he can get in the action early and not worry too much about getting based. My chances were not great, but better than most warbands I was coming up with. I played the following warband:

Elminster of Shadowdale (Epic)(269),Archmage(98),Storm Silverhand(57),Elf Pyromancer(32),Changeling Rogue(8),Changeling Rogue(8),Bat Familiar(6),Bat Familiar(6),Bat Familiar(6),Bat Familiar(6),Tavern Brawler(4),Dragondown Grotto.

That's 11 activations. The , but I wanted to give Elminster access to more options, and I wasn't planning on getting in melee situations where I would need the bodyguard.

1st round v. P.:Raistlin Majere (Epic)(177),Werewolf Lord (Epic)(157),Ryld Argith(55),Drow Cleric of Lolth(42),Large White Dragon(32),Demonic Gnoll Priestess(28),Timber Wolf(5),Skeleton(4),Hellspike. We played on Hellspike.

Three things put the match in my favor, Raistlin failed the Spell Penetration roll on my Archmage for the finger of death, Raistlin failed a morale save, and he made a mistake when placing his figures for Raistlin's Tower of High Sorcery. This placement error allowed my Archmage to put a mordenkainen's swords spell on Raistlin before he took his last two time stop activations. The routing Raistin was disintegrated by Elminster. 1-0

2nd round v D.N.:Count Strahd Von Zarovich, Vampire (Epic)(255),Mind Flayer Lich (Epic)(191),Sacred Watcher(18),Gravehound(11),Wolf Skeleton(9),Gnoll Skeleton(5),Gnoll Skeleton(5),Warrior Skeleton(3),Warrior Skeleton(3),Frostfell Rift. We played on Frostfell.

I made the mistake of not making my Archmage immune to acid (the MF Lich has a 40 damage acid arrow), but he made the mistake of not casting his acid arrow right away when he got line of sight. I was able to hide all my activations, use my invisible Changelings to get victory area points, and kill off all his tile grabbers. 2-0

3rd round vs Pat Lynch:Marilith (Epic)(255) Frost Giant Jarl (Epic)(222),Krenshar(7),Hyena(4),Warrior Skeleton(3),Orc Warrior(3),Orc Warrior(3),Orc Warrior(3),Tomb of Queen Peregrin. We played on Dragondown Grotto.

We play 50 minute matches so we can get 3 games in, and I had an 11 activation warband. These two factors work against a band that needs time for mordankainen's swords to do its work. If we played one or two more rounds there would have been no creatures left on the opposing warband. As it was, a failed Spell Resistance check on the Marilith meant that she lived for the rest of the round, and denied me her points. He killed my more valuable fodder (he had less points in fodder than 1 round of tile points) for the win. 2-1 for 2nd place out of 8.
