| Thanks again to Buck Lum at Craving for a Game for getting and running the event.
I wasn't even sure if I would be able to make it today. One grandma took our son, and 45 minutes before the start of the tournament (which is a good 40 minute drive from my place), the other grandma came through and said she could take care of our baby daughter. Thanks a bunch to both!
So, I arrived at the venue late, and had about half the time as the rest of the field to make up my warband.
My warband:
Bruenor Boar Human Cleric of Bahamut Warhorse Fire Archon Large Fire Elemental Ghoul
Map: Keep of Fallen Kings I
My first round opponent, Shaun (Darksteed), had a ranged warband, and he was on Grotto. He won map. I almost pulled it out in the end, but ran out of time, so he won on points.
2nd (Nate) and 3rd (Dave) rounds are now a blur but I did manage to win both of these games.
4th round opponent, Daniel (NeonKnight), had the Manticore Sniper and Raged Drake (plus other ranged stuff) on Tomb of Queen Peregrine. He punished me with the Manticore's ranged area (some kind of spines) in the first round. In the second round I double-moved Bruenor on Boar and LFE to base all of his ranged units. Too much melee power overwhelmed him, and I won.
This was the end of the Swiss rounds, and I finished 5th out of about 16 people. The one undefeated guy had to go, and his drop got me into the top 4. I agreed to give him a prize booster for getting me into the final 4.
My first playoff opponent, Chuck, had Bruenor on Boar and Angel of Vengeance. Can't really remember how, but I was able to win.
The final pitted Joel (Kezghan) and myself against each other (we were also the finalists for the Vancouver Qualifier). Same result - he won. His warband also had Bruenor on Boar; others were Bar L'gura, and Astral Stalker. He played well, I played well, but a pivotal point in the game was my Bruenor failing his morale check. It was downhill for me from then on. Joel, I'm getting tired of finishing second all the time!
All in all, a fun day. Really happy with coming second overall considering that I didn't even know I could make it 45 minutes before the start of the tournament. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades. | |

| I was very intent on making sure i made it to this event.. so working graveyard on friday night, left me with about 2hours sleep then a hour bus ride to get to the pre release(not to mention right after said event i went and worked another graveyard and now here i am)edit: started writing this then my brain turned to mush and i had to sleep...
My band was:
Bruenor Battlehammer Thundertusk Boar(i think we saw 3 Bruenor's pulled and every booster with a Big B had a Boar to help out) Astral Stalker(LOVE THIS PEICE) Bar lgura(kinda fun) Spined Devil(very cool for LE) Merchant Guard Shardbone skelly
Map: Dungeon of Blood
I went 3-1 finishing 3rd overall then got bumped to 2nd when Adrian Estergaard dropped(who went 4-0 my loss was to him when I put together a nice string of 1,2,2,2,1, then 2 20ies vs. his Fire Archon, then 2 more 1’s out of 4 attacks).
My tightest game was vs. Joe Patenaude (excellent player, slow but methodical, sportsmanship leaves a bit to be desired though) he should have won but just couldn’t seal the deal on Bruenor and the Astral Stalker(did I mention how much I love this piece?)
Playoffs:
Semi match was vs. Shane Elgaard who had 2 Spined Devil, Yuan-Ti Champion of Zehir, Bar-Lgura, 2 Drow Blademasters, Statue and something else… This match seemed to be some positioning on DoB(both our maps) then he set up to use his Abduct and took Bruenor off his pig and into a flank from the 2 devils and the Yuan Ti. I had already used my abduct to take one of his drow and have the pig and Bruenor pound it to death. Little did he know that dropping that crazy dwarf into any kind trap is suicide…. Bruenor got a devil to route, then the bar-lgura, he didn’t sustain much damage… Shane failed mc’s with both devils and the demon, all rallied but still that was pretty much the match my devil and pig and stalker moved in and trashed the champion.
Final vs the mighty Joe Q.
I set up an abduction of Bruenor off his pig and then beat on him with my Bruenor and pig, he failed MC that was pretty much the game in an nutshell. My Astral stalker moved in on his rallied Bruenor and critted him with a sneak attack and then he failed his hard to kill… so umm yeah. You can get me in the Limited Qualifier Joe….if Shane doesn’t first. heh
My first win at a pre release, felt good. Lots of fun had by all I think.
PS: Astral Stalker is the mad note!!

At my pre-release I think there was only one duplicated rare (I don't recall what it was right now). The store owner had purchased five cases and we only needed two for the event. Those would have been an excellent pair of cases if in fact there were only two duplicates.
