In addition to the info above, with everyone talkin about the Limited Qualifier coming up this weekend at Game Kastle, I'd be happy to buy two boosters and go head to head with anyone interested in some more Limited practice. I'm not gonna make it to GK this Thanksgiving weekend myself, but if anyone going wants a to face a tough competitor before this weekend (I've got a fair Limited DCI ranking) then come to GoB tomorrow.

OR you can bring a 200 point constructed band, that'd be fun too (and don't forget your trade stock ;-).

So, how'd it go? Well... perhaps too well. I played a band discussed in the Skirmish threads that seemed more of a lark because it centered on a DoD Rare that everyone has said was less than Tier 2, but since I had two of those rares, I played the band anyways - and it worked! :wOOt: I played:

Werewolf Lord
Werewolf Champion x2
Large Black Dragon
Orc Wardrummer
Orc Warrior x2

200 points, 7 activations. I had chosen Mushroom Cavern to run my own champs over spiked stones, but I never got to play on that map (yay Commander 2...).

My first game was against the mighty "SHOCK-BATS"! We played on King's Road.

Mercenary General
3x Elf Warmage
3x Bat Familiar
2x Arcanix Guard (one of which was a minion)
Farmer (x2 ?)

10 or more activations with Flight 12 Bats that could deliver 30 Damage Shocking Grasps half-way across the board! EEK!!! I ran everything I could to 13 spaces from his bats in Round 1, but I knew the Round 2 initiative would be critical. I won Round 2 (but no other Initiatives) and monopolized on my opponents one critical mistake: he had cast Ring of Blades with each of his Elf Warmages and moved them forward all 6 spaces in Round 1, which was not enough to get any of them into Forest sqares. I was able to fly my LBlackD forward 10 to base two of his Warmages and catch all three in his breath weapon. The one Warmage that was not based by the Dragon ran off the board - and with her went one SHOCK-BAT!

My opponent then used the two remaining bats to inflict 60 points of damage to the Werewolf Lord, which passed Morale save - no surprise there with the Orc Wardrummer's additional +4. He could have forced morale saves on both Werewolf Champs, or just flat out killed one of them, but he chose to go after the Lord. He then put 60 points of damage on the Warmages with Shocking Grasp to Morale the Dragon, again I passed Morale. At that point taking out the remaining Warmages, Merc General and Arcanix Guards wasn't too difficult. My Orc warriors went 1 to 2 vs. his Farmers. He did take out my LBlackDragon, but that was the only major piece he took. So, go Werewolf Champs! Who'd have thought? I'll post on my second match after a while.

OK, my second match was against an Yugoloth band.

Ultroloth
2x Mezzoloth
Canoloth
2x Dread Warrior
Greenspawn Sneak

200 points / 7 activations

We played on Broken Demongate, I was on the "demon side". His entire warband (besides the GS) started in the advanced start area. I did my best to avoid his Mezzoloth's radius 4 bombs in the first round and probably played too conservatively. Due to the nature of the map, neither of us scored victory area points the entire skirmish! Battle ensued rather quickly after round 2 in the central area of the map. Due to my opponent having buffer "living" minis, none of my werewolves was able to benefit from Bloodlust early in the skirmish.

My opponent managed to Nerf-beam one of my werewolf champs, dropping him to +13/+8 for 25 damage, which became 20 damage vs. DR. Nonetheless, with the Orc Wardrummer playing a Resistance Drumbeat, my WWChamp made morale, my LBlackD was able to breath and take out a Dread Warrior so that my WWLord could base his Ultroloth and I double moved my remaining WWChamp to flank. Too bad the Ultroloth is so good at making his Morale saves! I finished off the ultroloth and cleaved into a wounded Mezzoloth forcing it to route with no hope of rallying. I then moved my Speed 8 wounded WWLord and WWChamp away from his remaining Mezzoloth who had no chance of "catching up", especially when harrassed by a mostly undamaged LBlackD.

First point I have to make after this skirmish, Dread Warriors work wonderfully with the Ultroloth! They are a very efficient unit for their 10 point cost (AC 18 / 30 fearless HP / +9 for 10 Damage) and when used on a map with a "forward" victory area, their Speed 4 is heavily mitigated.

2nd point, I still believe the WWChamp to be a glass cannon. However, when used with the WWLord and the LBlackD, my opponents seemed to pay far less attention to them, allowing them to remain on the board longer and therefore do much more damage before they went splat. In fact, I didn't lose either WWChamp in either game!
