Rocherster NY 2007 Limited Championship Qualifier Results:

11 players (3 Syracuse, 1 Buffalo, 7 Rochester) braved the snowy weather.

Top 4 after swiss:

1st – Rich Falke (rfalke) 5-0
2nd – Marc Tiller 4-1
3rd – Matt Noble (Sirohk) 3-2
4th – Jay Nephew (JayMOTU) 3-2

Note - in Sealed portion, I observed only 1 Eternal Blade, 1 Osyluth, 1 CCD, no Ragedrake, no Avenging Angel.

Final results after draft:

1st – Matt Noble (Sirohk)
2nd – Jay Nephew (JayMOTU)
3rd – Rich Falke
4th – Marc Tiller

My more detailed tournament report to follow.

Congrats to everyone and a BIG thanks to Millennium Games for holding a top notch Qualifier tournament.

For the swiss rounds I (rfalke) played
Merc General
Fire Archon
Astral Stalker
Spined Devil
Merchant Guard (Minion)
Militia Archer
Animated Statue
Tiefling Cleric

For the finals I drafted
Werewolf Champion
Naga
Sahuagin Baron
2 Harpies
Snake Tongue Cultist
Spined Devil

The first warband I felt was going to get crushed as I had played the Fire Archon in pre-release and was absolutely destroyed. The MVP of this band though was the Astral Stalker. He was able to strike from a distance and then move in and kill after they were weakened. But the dice were with me and I was able to play the best I have ever played.
When we got to the draft and I got the WereWolf Champion I knew I was in trouble as he is very squishy. With the Naga and the Baron gave me a +8 for initiative but against Jay and his Bruenar and Merc General I was doomed. He also had a MaceTail and a dwarf Maul Fighter which gave him 4 solid hitters against my lower AC.
Unfortunately I will now have to grind in.

Here’s what I pulled in the Sealed event:

Rares:

Gelatinous Cube

Macetail Behemoth

Uncommons:

Ettercap

Shrieking Harpy

Halfling Enchanter

Cliffwalk Archer

Tiefling Cleric

Guardian Mummy

Commons:

x2 Demonweb Swarm

Rot Scarab Swarm

x2 Animated Statues

Blood of Vol Fanatic

x2 Militia Archers

IMO a fairly poor pull.ÂNone of the higher level commanders, no real major beater, and I pulled the Gelatinous Cube, ugh.

Here’s what I went with:

x2 Militia Archer

Gelatinous Cube

Macetail Behemoth

Cliffwalk Archer

Guardian Mummy

Animated Statue

198 pts, 7 activations, Commander 2, MAP – Drow Outpost

My goal was to hopefully get the Cube as a road block on the bridge and hit them with ranged attacks and then bring in the Macetail and Mummy.  It work once anyway.  I went 3-0 in my first 3 games, then 0-2 in my last two as my die went ice cold.Â

In my 4th game against Rich (Merc General, Fire Archon, Astral Stalker, Teifling Cleric, Militia Archer, Animated Statue, Spined Devil) the battle comes down to a die roll with his Merc General is at 5 HP and my Animated Statue charges him and I roll a 1 (just another of many rolled that game).  My Cube actually paralyzed something this game.  But a loss none the less.Â::Sigh::Â3-1

Then in my last game versus Marc (Sahugun Baron, Dwarf Maulfighter, Thundertusk Boar, Astral Stalker, filler).ÂI win map, but cube starts off in fort.ÂNever really a blocker this game.ÂMacetail misses twice on the Boar and that pretty much sums up the game.Â3-2 and hope for top 4 (although loosing to #1 and #2 should not hurt).Â

Top 4 Draft:

The Rares dumped were:

Rich – Werewolf Champ, Naga,

Marc – Elf Conjurer, Sahugin Baron (to Rich)

Jay – Bruennor, Merc General

Matt – Drider, Macetail (to Jay)

What I had to build from (going for Chaotic and Evil and hence why I did not pick the Macetail):

Drider

Shadow Mastiff

x2 Yuan-Ti Malison

Astral Stalker

Large Fire Elemental

Guardian Mummy

Halfling Enchanter

x2 Snaketougue Cultist

x2 Rot Scarab Swarm

Demonweb Swarm

Black Woods Dryad

Sahugin

Boneshard Skeleton

Heres what I used:

x2 Snaketongue Cultist

Drider

Astral Stalker

Yuan-Ti Malison

Large Fire Elemental

Guardian Mummy

7 activations

MAP - Grotto

In retrospect a second Yuan-Ti Malison would have been better than the Large Fire Elemental as it never really did anything until it killed the Elf Conjurer and then died the next round on arrows from the Cliffwalk Archer.ÂI guess I took it for the melee potential.Â
