| Hey everyone,
It's once again that time at Gob, two weeks since I actually managed to make a Werewolf Lord / Werewolf Champ band work! (The Large Black Dragon didn't hurt ;-)! I discussed those skirmishes in a previous Tournament Topic (DDM @ GoB - 11/20).
So, bring a 200 point constructed band and prove me wrong that the Werewolf Champ is indeed NOT a Tier 1 piece (even though I'm probably not gonna play that warband again this time...).
And don't forget your trade stock!
WHERE: Games of Berkeley - http://www.gamesofberkeley.com
WHEN: Tuesday December 4th @ 6:30pm-ish (typically every first and third Tuesday of each month at the same start time).
HOW MUCH: $0.00 - that's right, it doesn't cost a penny!
FOR WHAT ?: DCI Sanctioned League play - 200pt Assault. We'll likely get in two or three rounds. These evenings are a great opportunity to hone your skills and your Warband for larger tournaments!!!
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! Every player will recieve League Prizes (EPIC cards, repaints, etc.) just for participating!
Hope to see you there! -Ben

| Well, I showed up late and two of our regulars had already started a skirmish - CE vs. CE! One brought an interesting Bar-Lgura / Marilith / Large Black Dragon / Tiefling Blademaster build while the other brought a terrifying Werewolf Lord / Large Shadow Dragon / Large Black Dragon / Large White Dragon band... Well, I do know the dragons won the day, but perhaps one of the two skirmishers might share their impression of this skirmish with you all - I'll leave it to them.
After I and one other player showed up we decided to hold a draft! I'm not sure we followed the format to the letter, but we had fun doing it anyways! None of us plulled "bad" rares, so we all kept the rares from each booster we opened, then handed the packs of cards around to divide up the un/commons.
Rares drafted included:
- Osyluth & Sahuagin Baron (me) - Bruenor & Umberhulk Delver (Lysle) - Capricious Copper Dragon & Naga (John) - Nightmare & ... I can't remember (Paul)'s other rare
Unfortunately with the time constraints we were only able to get in one round, so we paired off randomly and I ended up facing Lysle. Interestingly enough John and Paul both had Eternal Blades - I'm so glad they played each other! And believe it or not, John's + 11 Initiative apparently didn't help him at all (he lost to Paul).
On to the draft. Well, fortunately for me Lysle wasn't handed any Dwarf Maulfighters to accompany his Bruenor *whew*! Myself, I managed to draft 2 Blood of Vol Fanatics and then hate draft a 3rd (because I know how strong they are in sealed!). So, all things said and done I ended up with:
Osyluth Sahuagin Baron (Commander 5) BoV Fanatic x2 Shrieking Harpy Snaketongue Cultist (Commander 2) Farmer
My opponent had:
Bruenor Umberhulk Delver Astral Stalker Spined Devil Shadar-Kai Assassin 2x Boneshard Skeleton
We played on Drow outpost (his map - I had chosen Dragonshrine). I set up on the "outpost side" and he on the "cave side".
So, we each made one pretty bad mistake - my opponent first. He positioned his two Boneshards next to each other and adjacent to his Shadar-Kai Assassin at the end of the first round. I assume he anticipated being able to move them... but I won initiative. I had already moved my Osyluth to within two squares of his skeletons at the far end of the bridge), but first I moved my Harpy in to soften them up with a sonic cone. One swat from my Osyluth caused one skeleton to pop, which popped the other skeleton and the two popping skeletons forced a morale save from the Shadar-Kai Assassin... which it passed!
I then made my big mistake - I ran my Osyluth up to base his Shadar-Kai and leave only one square between him and Bruenor (who would have to move to base the Osyluth). I thought that this would keep both his Shadarkai and Astral Stalker from flanking and getting their Sneak Attack bonuses... then his Umberhulk Delver "sapped" my Osyluth...
D'oh - gotta go, I'll wrap this up later! Hope the anticipation isn't too much ! | | Champion of all things Athasian "Don't sing it - Bring it!"

| Well crap, at that point I had a stunned Osyluth with my opponent's Bruenor and Astral Stalker on one side with a Spine devil flanking! Somehow my Osyluth survived the next round with 10 HP (made morale) despite having an effective AC of 16 (stunned, flanked, stench). I think my opponent forgot something cause he shoulda been toast! At the beginning of the third round I won initiative and was able to "Lure" his Spine Devil away from it's flanking position, which drew Bruenor and the Astral Stalker's attention even longer. The Osyluth still didn't do much, and it was far too expensive a meat shield... but on to other aspects of the skirmish.
In the far corner, on the bridge, my opponent's Umber Hulk was having to contend with both of my BVFans and my Sahaugin Baron - not good for him. Thanks to Fearsome Presence I did force the Umber Hulk to route, and with burrow he got far enough to be out of command! Since Bruenor was otherwise engaged and my opponent didn't have a back-up commander, there was no chance for him to rally! The Spined Devil soon followed suit, though it did manage to take out my shrieking harpy beforehand.
The fourth and fifth rounds saw melee on my opponent's "cave side" of the Drow Outpost. My opponent's shadar-kai assassin didn't last too long and my Sahaugin Baron got in a rend vs. an already slightly damaged Bruenor, forcing a morale save, that he made. At that point the time was up and we had to count points. My opponent, having taken out my Osyluth, Harpy, and Farmer was up by a few "critter points" because I had only taken out his Umber Hulk, Shadar-Kai, Spine Devil and Boneshards. I had five rounds of victory area points vs. his two, which brought me to a comfortable lead and win, however.
Overall I do enjoy this set for "limited" play, and I really enjoyed draft! However, we all did get some pretty impressive pulls (no G-Cubes + Merc. General) so I'm sure that had something to do with it. I hope you all are having as great a time with this set as we are! -Ben | | Champion of all things Athasian "Don't sing it - Bring it!"
