Gorstag:

Gen Con can be confusing!

Generally: Each event has a seperate ticket which can be bought to get into the event. Each event has a Maximum capacity, once sold out, no additional tickets will be sold. However, Gen Con realizes that many people may sign up for an event, and then not show up, or that people may want to play in an event after a last minute decision. Thus: Generic Tickets. Each generic ticket costs $1.50. They are used like vouchers to get into events. So, if you wanted to get in on some RPGA event at the very last moment, and it originally had a $6.00 specific event cost, you would use 4 generic tickets if there was space available.

The MaxMinis draft is a little different. Here we had a higher cost to cover the printing of our map, along with the table rental fee. Since we couldn't be sure how many slots we would sell, we were conservative, and limited the event to 64 participants. All 64 of these specific event tickets have been sold. However, unlike other events, we should be able to accomodate up to 128 total players. Why? Because we only need 1 map for every 2 players. Those players who arrive on site with generic tickets won't pay the full $7.50, but they also won't get to keep the map they play on.

SO: Have a couple of generic, and show up, and I'm sure that we can accomodate you!

Time is closing in and the event is getting closer. Are there any other questions from the masses that are begging to be answered? As the event rolls closer we will have a few more questions I'm sure, but I think most can be answered in this forum.

Thanks!

Any word back on the Mini's Room Coordinators/WotC about additional judges, computer, or prize support?

I haven't settled yet... maybe something from the Gen Con Auction, maybe that booster of Archfiend I have sealed up...

Is anyone planning to do any ftf trading at this event? It would be a great chance for those folks who have less than 10 trades to not have to wait ages for two directions of mail. Also a great chance to look before you trade.

I was thinking a six pack of Aussie "adult beverage" - not Fosters, I promise. And a Bronze Wyrmling promo, if anyone thinks they'd like one.

These "adult beverages" do seem to be popular amongst attendee's....

If you can't get an official ticket, bring some generic tickets with you, and we will still get you into th match!

Ah, thank you for that information. This is my first GenCon and I bought an official ticket for this event. I wasn't sure if I had to bring a copy of the winning map with me, or if it would be provided. Now I know. Thanks.

I'd encourage you to mix up your WotDQ boosters. use one as a prize, and buy a wardrums or underdark... WotDQ will only provide your draft pool with 7 playable figures. that means that if the Huge are both Blue Spawn, you yourself will likely end up with only 1 figure out of each box with which to build your warband (vs 2 figures from everyone elses). Does that make sense?

I have an extra official ticket for this, if you show up and re-imburse me the expense you can have it. This will also get you the map.

Thank you, you are very kind, I will meet you where? How much is it again? And I have to bring 2 boosters (probably Underdark and Wardrums)and some prizes right? For prizes, I can bring a cold cone template and a promo repaint ,... is that enough or do I bring more or better prizes?

For the map, can I see somwhere what it looks like? And I will see everybody at 18h00 Saterday the 12th. Or before at the championship the 11th.

And excuse me for my ignorance, but what are generic tickets?

I have a pass for the 4 days for Gencon that I won at a qualifier,... but Tickets, is that the same I dont think so?

Heres the map thread http://www.maxminis.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=18878 jenkiss's merchant quarters map,the 1st one, was the winner and the one we'll be playing on at the draft.

The pass you won gets you in the door at the convention, and lets you play in the finals, but if you want to do any events at GenCon you have to buy tickets to the event. If an event is sold out you might still get in if you buy generic tickets. You buy generic tickets and show up at the event if a ticket holder doesn't show up or if they event organizer decides they can run more people then you 'pay' for the event with a number of generic tickets.

Heh... Well, depending on the judge situation, if I'm able to play, I'll be drafting with Archfiends, and Deathknell... Or I could go 2 boosters of Archfiends.... Hmmm...

I had a chat with JGFred at our tournament yesterday (and another with CSchroder in the middle of the night that followed on vassal)...

This seems like an awesome event. As I understand it, the event seems full but if there's waiting list, I wanna be in!

To be clear: The 64 ticketed slots are sold out. These 64 tickets grant you admission, and a copy of the map we are playing on.

HOWEVER: It is highly likely that we can accomodate up to an additional 64 participants with just 3 generic tickets. These generic tickets (i.e. $4.50) would grant you admission to the event, but you would not get to leave with a copy of the map.

If you want to participate, and you didn't get a ticket, show up at least 30 minutes prior to the event, and we'll do our best to get you in!

So, I got one of those lovely new Griffon Cavalry figures that like to lie down on the job all the time. She didn't look nearly as good with the rubber band that I had to put around her to keep her standing. Therefore, I decided to fix her... Now that I have a second one to work on, I was thinking of offering the first as prize for the draft. I'd like to repaint it somehow, but I'm drawing a blank on what would look good, so I figured I'd post it here and see if anyone has any suggestions, maybe something they'd like to take home with them.

Sorry to have been gone for so long, but I was away at boy scout camp with my son.

Thanks Pat for fielding so many of the questions. So to sum up a few questions:

1. Yes the event is "sold out" of regular tickets, but you can still come and play for 3 genereic tickets. The big difference is that the players who made the original 64 will all get a map for the extra expense.

2. Yes you will need 2 boosters from the list in the very first thread. I would caution against 2 WotDQ as they will have only 7 draft minis and will short you 2 minis during the draft.

3. Prizes can be anything that you think someone else at the event might like. This can be repaints, templates, modules, sets of commons, custom repaints, RPG books, etc. I have a few pieces coming in from Runelord as custome paint jobs... and boy do they look sweet! Much thanks to him for the minis!!!

This event is growing and turning into quite the fun time. I'm hoping that everyone who plays has fun and gets a chance to meet others from the boards! Looking forward to seeing everyone in a few days!

Location change??

I just got this in an e-mail from GenCon Registration:

quote:
This email is to inform you that the location for your event NMN00074 has changed because this event is now being managed by Wizards of the Coast per request of the original Event Organizer.

Please check in at WotC Mini's HQ in Hall A when you come to play this event.

Thanks and we hope you have a great time at Gen Con Indy 2006!
What's the deal? I thought it was to be in Hall A all along. Or, now it's not and we need to go to Hall A to find out where?

Yep me too, it says the location has changed but not where.

I have heard that PatE may have gotten WOTC to judge at the event hence the takeover, any truth to this.

Whats Up?

Sean should have the details, I've only just gotten this notice as well.

Don't worry though. All this does mean is that we will have access to more judges for the event, and perhaps more prizes!

It has been hall A from the get go, and being that it is on Saturday, Sean and I will figure out the details on Thursday so we can spread the word if there are any other disruptions. As we are all still going to Hall A, I don't expect their to be any.

Heh... confirmed means you've got a ticket... Lastyear, this list was "the"list, not so now with an actual tickets. Rest assured you'll get to play!

I'll ask Sean to update the list.

So quickupdates:

Yes we were able to fall under the WotC umbrella for the purposes of judges, but not for sanctioning. This will remain a community focused event with the emphasis on fun and play, not ranking.

By falling under the WotC unbrella we will have access to a judge for the event so that I will be able todothe management of the event and the judge can field any questions during the matches.

Also by fallingunder the WotC umbrella thereis a small chance that we might be able to get some extra prizes as well as some more maps.

I say WotC, but it is Pasttime games (I think I spelled that correctly) that I have been working with. They are helping to supply the judges for all the minis games this year.

As for the location change, it was in Hall A which is the minis hall, it is now in Hall A again. So yes it did move, but it is going from the general area to a more WotC area, so we are still garunteed space.

Bring 3 generic tickets with you and just show up, I'm sure we can accomdate you!

Okay, Pat, I took your advice and I'm bringing 2 Wardrums boosters. I didn't want to screw up the draft with too few figures and once I started packing, the smaller boosters sounded real good![:D]

I'd like to thank everyone who helped make the draft a great event, and my four opponents for the great games.  I still don't fully understand how I made it to 1st place, but I'm more than pleased to have that honor.  Runelord, thanks for the excellent trophy (the Dracolich)!

I had a lot of fun, didn't do so great, but fun was the main goal.  Got to meet some maxmini members to include kithmaker (great meeting you by the way).  The map was very cool, It almost didn't make it from what I understand.  Many thanks to those that contributed to that project.  To include Ravenlord who had to drop from Epic tournement to try find them.  I donated two giants of legend boosters, I hope they were good minis to those that choose them as prizes.

Hope to see you all next year.
