First I'd like to thank everyone who attended for making this a great tournament. The judges were great, they ran everything smoothly and did an overall wonderful job. I placed 2nd overall after going 4-2 in the swiss.
My band was: Ryld Argith, Large Black Dragon x2, Thrall of Blackrazor, Cursed Spirit, Warrior Skeleton on Teleport Temple.
Match #1 WIN - Reuben Vahradian - Lyrander, Tordek, Redgar, Virtuous Charger, Wild Elf Warsinger, Mialee, Wolf, Devis Map: Teleport Temple Reuben spread out his team as I wanted him to do, the Thrall moved in and started taking out fodder. I flanked the VC between two dragons taking it out then took out the Captain and Redgar. In the end it was just Tordek left and I stayed away from him, collecting VP until the win. 201-132 1-0
Match #2 Loss - Brad Shugg - Ulmo, Cleric of Order, Sacred Watcher x 5, Bat, Human Commoner Map: Teleport Temple After the match Brad told me all that I really could have done different was either focus completely on taking out Ulmo or the Watchers, and that I had spread my attention out too much. There were a few critical moments, but honestly it was an uphill battle from the start. 152-59? (conceed) 1-1
Match #3 WIN - Alex Paul - Ryld, Large Black Dragon x 3, Hyena, Orc Warrior x 3 Map: Teleport Temple Having similar bands I focused my attention on his Ryld taking him out early in the match. With my dragons and thrall winning most of the initiatives of the battle, I dealt the damage to his beaters first giving me the win. It also helped that he had a bad streak of rolls at a key point of the battle. 220-63 2-1
Match #4 WIN - Herb Helzer - Storm, Cormyrean War Wizard x 2, Shadowdancer x 2, Aramil, Wild Elf Warrior, Bat Map: Teleport Temple He started off putting major focus on my Thrall, taking him out early. Unfortunately in doing so my dragons entered the battle taking out on of the CWW and Aramil. He moved in silver firing and bolting both dragons but basing his storm to one of the dragons. The turning point was next init when I crit Storm taking her out of the battle. After that it was 2 SD vs 2 LBD. 191/201-56? 3-1
Match #5 WIN - Joseph Swalec - Vlaakith, Thrall, Large Black Dragon, Cursed Spirit, Troglodyte Thug, Hunting Hyena, Orc Warrior x 2 Map: Teleport Temple Early in this match we killed off each other's commanders. I took Vlak out and he killed Ryld. It was then a beat-down battle between dragons and thralls. I came out on top. It was a very close match. 201-149 4-1
Match #6 Loss - Josh Labar - Solar, Shield Guardian, Dragonmark, Mialee, Wolf x 2, Man at Arms Map: Field of Ruin First time I lost my map. Then I lost first, second, and third initiatives. I failed to screen the Thrall and it died 2nd round from a slaying arrow. I took down the Solar to 65 hp, SG to 10 hp but it was too little to late. Loss 4-2
So I end up getting 4th in swiss due to my tiebreakers! I'm stoked as I've qualified.
Match #7 WIN!! - Josh Labar - Solar, Shield Guardian, Dragonmark, Mialee, Wolf x 2, Man at Arms Map: Field of Ruin So I lose my map, and I get the same side.. and I set-up the same. I'm thinking it's going to be a repeat of the last match.. but I play this one smarter. I screen the Thrall with the Warrior Skeleton, and Josh overextended his Solar shooting the skele. I win init and flank the Solar with my two dragons. His dragonmark is 2 rounds away from getting close enough to do anything. He moves in the SG and I move Thrall into the flank with the dragons. To put the battle in perspective these were his first 6 rolls: 1, 1, 2, 2, 1, 2 I hit with ~70% of my attacks. He took down the thrall. I took down Solar and the SG. So I'm in second place and my match-up is against Dave. I was more interested in the 4 boosters as I already have transportation set-up in a carpool for Gen Con, so I drop. Great games, a lot of fun. I'm still stoked about taking 2nd and having a free badge plus a shot at the champs. |
