Well I am a war buff, and I am looking forward to having a complete set however I doubt they will go for more than DDM.

My doubts:

First off I don't think the skirmish style of combat will appeal to hardcore war gamers. It will be hard to reenact historical battles, and I feel that may put off a few people.

Secondly DDM, and SWM both have a good RPG standing so quite a few DMS/Players need a lot of the same pieces. However I don't see that falling into place here.

Thirdly the minis are two much off scale. What I mean is the infantry, and the tanks are about the same size (that’s what I heard anyway). So that puts off people who enjoy building dioramas.

Fourthly they will be easier to get. With only 48 pieces people will fill out there sets fast unless they pull the uber rare ala SWM.

All in all it looks fun to me, but I would not get into it for the money.

*of course that is just my opinion, and it is usually wrong [)]

Harbinger and the 1st printing of the 1st SWM set are worth money. I think this 1st set will retain its value.
Oni brings up good points why it may not be worth anything.

IMHO plenty of people will buy this game.
15m size (yes the infantry aren't to scale) is about FoW size. Lots of people play that game and tanks are around $8 each.

Its a beer and peanut type wargame, that will atract non-competitive games as well as competitive ones.

For most gamers (including me) the WWII setting is a favorite genra.

Collectors love WWII junk.

I'm going to check it out at GenCon, unless I really hate it, I've already pre-ordered a case of boosters.

They just don't know what's good in life...Conan, tell them what is good in life.
To rip the boosters. To count the minis spilled out before you, and to hear the indifference of the women...

Not sure if it will be an investment.

It might get a few more players into WWII gaming. I don't see people getting excited to buy that rare Elefant for US$50.

There are already a huge array of WWII miniatures out there in a variety of scales, of course the benefit of A&A is they are already painted.

Long term I don't see the game lasting (where as the DDM's will be around forever, maybe not in production, but while people are still playing the rpg. Well until we get holodeck technology...)

The advantage is you can collect a lot of painted 15mm figures and then use them in other WWII games like Flames of War or the second edition of Rapid Fire. When the A&A rules no longer provide any longterm playability.

Ben.

Investment? Like - as in to make money on? Naaaahhhh.... There's WAY better things to "invest" in.

A fun little game with neat pieces? Yeah, that's about right.

If you check out the photos that have already been released (AAM links thread) the infantry and tanks look mostly to scale with each other, with the infantry only being slightly larger than scale due to wanting them to be recognizable.

I think this game will get plenty of popularity because of the built-in WW2 enthusiasts crowd. When boardgame and grognard sites like the Wargamer start talking about how excited they are about the miniatures (not necessarily to even play the game), you know this will have a good market base.

As for the rarity of the figures, consider that if you want a Tiger 1, the coming set will likely be the only one you'll see that tank in. Same thing goes for other rares of similar coolness. So if the popularity of the figures becomes high (not necessarily the game), expect rares from the starting set to keep a good value.

I have see these and they are either 'to scale' or very close.
Where did it say they are not?
