| I like the Stuart; great for desert scenarios. Distribution by my count is 18 common/15 uncommon/15 rare. Not bad. A little odd that all the machine guns are uncommons, whereas all the other infantry support weapons, including AT guns, are common. Flamethrowers are common?
Still, pending in-the-hand examination, I'm happy with this first set. Looking forward to getting some, definitely.

| The MG teams are multi-figure scuplts. And have to be factory assembled. The commons are all single figures and are obviously molded in one-piece. So making the MG teams uncommon is driven by the manufacturing costs.
Given how much better the MG teams look than the lt.Mortars/AT guns I hope they do the medium mortars (80mm) as uncommons/teams.

I wish the AT guns were teamed, even if that would mean they were uncommons.

The most common (and, IMO, likely) date for widespread retail release is the third week of September. Some are being pre-released at Gencon and probably other big events.

| | Early on I had seen a release date of August 25th. But then there was information on that date being sometime in Septmeber. I do not know if they felt they needed more time to drum up the game or what. With the release of photos on the full set maybe the August 25th date is good. (fingers crossed)[:p] | | | |

I had this same question - maybe they've got a good answere for it, but the "Red Devils" is definitely a name associated with UK Airborne from WWII on. Here's there website:
http://www.reddevilsonline.com/para.htm
I'd hate to imagine some of these fellows showing up at WOTC R&D early some morning in search of an explanation...
ALSO - I always thought that the M-3 light tank in UK use was referred to as "The Honey," but who needs to be so picky...

Well, there's the Manchester United football team, and the Belgian Worldcup team. I think we can safely ignore both of them.
There's the Red Devils parachute team, which has roots tracing back to British 508th PIR of WW2:
The Red Devils were formed in 1964 and became the official British Army parachute display team in 1979. All team members are serving soldiers in the Parachute Regiment, of which there are three regular Battalions. On completion of a tour with the Red Devils members return to their respective Battalions to continue with normal Regimental duties.
There's also an Indian Para Commando unit which uses the name.
But I think this one refers to the US 504th PIR.

According to the flavor text on the card he is from the "Red Diamond" 5th Infantry Division which was nicknamed the Red Devils by the Germans. | | We are all agreed that your theory is crazy. Thanks. Armed with this information, I was able to dig up the following:It was the German enemy in the St. Mihiel campaign who gave the men of the division the name by which they are known today. They called them "Die rote Teufel"- -which in English is "Red Devils!"
With the war clouds forming over Europe in 1939, the 5th Division (Regular) was called on again for service to the country. The 5th Division was reactivated 16 October 1939, at Fort McClellan, Alabama. In August 1943 the Division moved from Iceland to Tidworth Barracks, England then in October, 1943, to Northern Ireland for advanced training for the invasion of France. The 5th Division, from it's landing in Normandy July 9, 1944 to the last Division Headquarters in Vilshofen, Germany traveled 2049 miles and engaged in all five of the ETO's major campaigns. The 5th Division served in the XII and XX Corps, Third Army from August 3, 1944 to the end of hostilities, May 7, 1945.
So now we know....

Cool - I knew there was a good story behind this, thanks for the bonus research!
I suppose dipping into the deep bucket of WWII nicknames there are lots of "Red" ones and even more "Devils." As for me, too much underage consumption of Cornellious Ryan permanently alligned the two words with one target...

| I talked with Iam Richards for about an 1/2 hour about AAM's at GenCon. The release date is Friday Sept 16th with DCI sanctioned tournies going live on the 17th and retailer kits availible starting in October.
4 sets a year are planned, the next being released on December 9 then one in March (the Stuka sclupt looks really sweet Ian told me) sometime. All sets will be 48 figure based, planes in the March expansion. | | They just don't know what's good in life...Conan, tell them what is good in life. To rip the boosters. Includes rarities, so we now know the 7th uncommon vehicle is the M3-Stuart. Which is not a tank I want lots of.

And you'd be wise. The Stuart wasn't really intended to go up against enemy armor, at least not by the time it was deployed to North Africa. It was used mostly for scouting and flushing enemy positions. The Brits liked it because it was fast and reliable.
