One question I have: do you prime the whole thing and start over, or do you just make changes to parts?

I don't prime. I just clean the figure, hot/cold water method to straighten its parts and then paint.

Some people like to prime but obviously they have more time than I do [)] I guess you could say my weretiger was primed as I put a coat of white on it then I did all of the other detail. Truthfully you will always get better results by priming, but I ain't that picky.

As for tips:

Steady Hand [)] and lots of patience. Find a brush you are comfortable with (I list what I use on my site) some people use magnifying glasses, I don't. Some people like a desk and a calm environment, I don't (paint in bed while watching TV)
Use acrylic paints! I get much better results than oil based and easier to clean up; and most important of all...HAVE FUN! if it ain't fun then it is not worth it...you are not getting paid to do it [)]
