For sealing metal minis I have always used a figure flat/dull coat. You can find various brands at Wal-Mart and or the craft type shops as well as your FLGS....[)]

What about sealing the paint on repainted DDM?

I use Plaid Clear Acrylic Sealer Matte (CS200306) that I picked up at WalMart (cheap) for my first coat or two (depending on how much use/abuse the mini may get). It's not very Matte IMO, so after that I use Testors DullCote (1260) to knock down the shine.

Some people use the gloss sealer first because they say it gives a harder coating, I use it because it lets me seal the mini with 3 coats without blowing through my Dull Cote (which I've never found on the cheap and always comes in the little spray cans).

I am going to have to check that DullCote.

Right now I am using Delta Matte Ext/Int Varnish. It is ok but still a bit shinny [:(]

For a faux aged look (like pulp fiction figs) try spar varnish then dull coat. The varnish will add a slight sepia tone and is UV safe.

Okay, so I sprayed a Matte finish on my minis and now it's all sticky. Does that go away with time or is there something else I should put on over that?

Like any type of paint or substance thats aerosal... let it dry!

It should dry and feel just like plastic once its finished drying. Like paint on a wall and such. 2 hours later its not runny its sticky, 5 hours after that its dry.

If it stays sticky, id move it somewhere dryer...

It's in a dry place a day later and still has a stick to it. Oh well, I can live with it.

I had the same problem with a spray sealer I used once on the Harbinger Ogre (hence he looks sweaty) I just gave it a coat of the brush on one and the stickiness went away once it dried.

As a word of caution to those folks (like myself) who live in a high humidity area. Sometimes the mate sealer will "frost" over. This is just a sign that you have to much moisture in the air. Either, wait until the humidity goes down or stop and spray some gloss sealer and then follow up with a couple of shots of a matte to knock the shine down.

I have not done this but I have see the effect from other painters here in the K.C. area who I trust for tips and information. I have gone through some frosting on some figs. It looks like snow so I let it ride. I figure that it would be good to throw this info out there in case anyone ran into problems...[)]
