No idea, but have you tried asking at Cool Mini or Not?

You may have some luck asking at Reaper as well.

Looks like a Ral Partha 25mm from the late 80's- knights boxed set era. The chain mail is in their sculpt style- that is "dimpled" instead of sculpted into chain links.

However, the sword and headdress appear to be a Reaper design.

The sheild appears to be heavily modified- material was removed from the sides and other material added to the bottom half.

Is the base of the metal modified, or is this a true "sits in the plastic slot base"?

Whatever it turns out to be, it's a great axample of the artistry that goes into modifying and painting minis.

It might be an off brand like "Thunderbolt" minis or one of the many other flash in the pan miniature companies of the late 80's early 90's. Many of which had really good sculptors and great looking minis. But went out of stock fast and also out of existiance even faster.

It doesn't have the "OVERSIZED" weapon look that Chronopia type figs have/had. The pose and sculpt (to me) suggest a Metal Magic or Hobby Products type. As the figure has a really nice "feel" to it....

Sorry not much help other than throwing out ideas....

The story behind this figure, is that it a commission paint job that I recently completed. The customer has thousands of figures, and has forgotten where many of them came from. He often sends figures that I think "Hey, I'd really like to get one of these for myself!".

More info :

The shield, and figure in whole for that matter, is unmodified. There were minimum mold lines to remove, but that was it. The base is a true 'slotta' tab style. The base had a GW stamped on it. I thought it may be Games Workshop, but again - I can't find anything on their site.

I went with a whim on the yellow, black, off-white and have to agree with griffrat that it just has a nice "feel". The eye on the front picture has been fixed (I got a little too agressive with the blackline). That's also my first real success with a large gemstone.

I thought about this topic on the way into work. It has a Harlequin/Heartbreaker feel. The company went under back in like 98 or so. The company man not have gone under but the figs were hard to get so my FLGS ran a special and stopped carrying them.

I remember that many of the figs had a good feel to them and they all had slotta bases. If I am thinking clearly (only one cup of coffee [:D]) it seems like many of the sculptors of the early GW stuff worked at Harlequin/Heartbreaker. This might give you more information and yet another path to look down....

The Gemstone looks great for an eye catching part of the mini. I probably would have gone the easy way out and painted it a metal color. But then I haven't painted many large gemstones recently. Back when I was painting Eldar it was like breathing. Gemstones everywhere!!! Ζ)]

Great looking fig!!!

Well - of note, I dropped Tim Prow a line last week. He says it seems familiar, but is probably a Chaz Elliot elf from early Heartbreaker.

While researching, I found some nice models from Heartbreaker. I'm thinking I need to find a store (online or not) that carries OOP Heartbreaker, and get me some sweet elves, dark elves, and goblins.
