If you get stuck, turn to the Model Railroaders. HO gauge is almost the same scale and many of the modeling tricks used carry over quite well. If you are comfortable with somewhat brittle scenery many plants when dried and spray painted make excellent trees. Goldenrod for example, can look like excellent elm trees. Take a look around some fields or sides of the road. Pick the weeds that will look good scaled down and pick them and let them dry out. Once dry, spray them with some sort of fixative and them spray with colors (green for summer), orange and red for autumn, etc. I had a few mountain hill sides covered this way and for real cheap.

Thanks Z.
I used Golden rod once, but I didn't like how brittle it turned out. The trees I've made are surprisingly durable. I mean, you can't step on them or anything like that, but the hold up quite well when being boxed up or if you drop them.
As for the H.O. railroad line, that was what I checked into first for trees because I wasn't sure how I was going to make them, so I was just going to buy some. The local hobby stores around here that deal with model train stuff suck though. The only thing they have are the snow topped evergreens[:(].
I found the decouative Moss in a variety of colors, including autumn colors as well. I figure, I'll probibly make a few with those for some vaiety. Also, I picked up different shades of flat green paints to create a more diverse look between my green treen. This was my first successful attempt at making anything like this. Now it's time to experiment with different thinks though.
For the price between $14 and $15, I was able to make 16 trees before I ran out of moss. I figure, under a buck a tree's pretty good given that it only takes about an hour to make.

Looks good, and seems fairly simple to do, I might have to try it.

ThanksΖD].
They are pretty simple. I did find a place that sold a variety of trees, but it seemed the scale was way off. They'd pass for short trees and bushes though. For some of my smaller trees I did, I only used 2-3 toothpicks for the trunk (see pic of hill in my terrain post), but I made a couple that are fairly large and a bit more closer to scale. I think I used 5-6 toothpicks for the trunks of those and gradually decreased the size the further up they got. The tree in the pics above, a medium sized mini can stand under the branches to give some idea of its hight. The larger trees I made, the trunk comes up to about shoulder level to a Fire Giant. UI think those will be the biggest ones I'll make as they take up alot of room in their box.
