| | Very nice Chris. I was IMing Krush last night about doing something similar with a Skullclan for my PC. I hate using a mini to represent him if he's not close to what my PC looks like | | 183 Completed trades with the best people on the net! | |

Hey man don't dis' my Space Marines!
The reason I have so many is that I'm trying to finish a completely-beakie Blood Angel army. I've got all of them assembled now but I had to get 6 more from a friend w/ bolt pistols so I can fill out my send assault squad.

Well the painting is where I'm not as good as the really good people. I can sculpt / hack / mod well enough ... but painting is a bit trickier. I think it's a patience-issue.
Anywho, I primed them white this morning before work. Maybe I'll take a pass at picking out some of the details at lunch. If not now it's going to have to wait as I'm going on vacation for a week. | | Triangle DDM Skirmish Group | My Email | 45-ish trades and counting | Stuff for Trade * * * Show your brother some love and click here * * *

| The head needed *something* and I'm pretty pleased with how the horns turned out.
I just re-read the article ... god I made a ton of typos and misspellings.
I've got to decide on a color scheme. I'm thinking the Favored Soul will be silver primarily (Adamantium body) and alot brighter than the darker tone the WFF and WFH take. I'll trim out the rivets and some of the armor plating with gold I think. I might keep actual colors to a minimum. If I do use colors I think it'll be red on teh shield and a few other highlights.
For the Rogue / Assassin I'm not sure. Classically dark colors and tones are more fitting but with the design on his robe that's begging for 2-tones. I'm thinking high-contrast; maybe jet and yellow? Blue and yellow? | | Triangle DDM Skirmish Group | My Email | 45-ish trades and counting | Stuff for Trade * * * Show your brother some love and click here * * *

I think Jet and yellow would like good for the mini, maybe not practical for a Rogue/Assassin--but it would look good. Maybe he is so good at what he does that he doesn't need to wear all dark clothing to blend in. | | Quis custodiet ipsos custodes--Who will gaurd the guards? Champion of the Commoner Mob Leader

If you wanted black on each (to accentuate the assassin thing) I would shade one up with blue and one up with a warm brown, that way it looks like two leathers. I would propably complete the job with a brass or bronze skin for the WF.

| | Very creative and the explanation was excellent. I read the text first before looking at the pictures and I was building up an image in my mind of what the final product would look like. It met my expectations and more. | | Give me more MIND FLAYERS! | |

| Alright, so I got around to final paint and assembly. One apology up-front; I still don't have a new digital camera so you're looking through the lense on my camera phone ...
I tackled the WFF I've turned into a Warforged Adventurer first.
As I started to paint there were a few things about which I became unhappy. For one, the shield was too symetrical. One thing about the Eberron Warforged; there doesn't seem to be alot of symetry. Instead, things tend to be asymetric to an extreme. I've got the arms nearly in the same position as each other, a symetric shield, etc. Once I got a base coat of primer on I knew I had to make some changes.
Off came the shield. Instead I found an asymetric shield I had in my bit box. It still didn't covey the right image, so I took the axe of a Tannaruk and sniped the points then glued them to the shield-edge, similar to the shield spikes the WF Hero has. Then I decided I wanted some sort of extra plating on the shoulder. I cut a piece of stiff card into a rounded shape then shaped it to fit along the line of the edge of his left shoulder pad. I glued that in place and then re-primed.
For the paint job I figured this guy had best be simple. All of the other simple warforged are really brass / gold / silver tones on a black base so I followed suit. The bulk of the body is a mix of brass and silver dry brushed onto a black base. Some details are picked out in a thicker coat of brass or silver. The leath straps and pouches are a few diferent tones of brown (base, wash, drybrush) with the snaps, etc. picked out in black / silver. Wood on the javelins is the same, although I'm using different brown tones. Eyes I picked out in green, then threw a tad of black wash to shape them in the corners.
Overall result ... i'm happy w/ the mods but unhappy w/ the paint job. I'm not as good of a painter as I'd like to be ... I've got the vision, but not the patience or skill to carry it off. I can concept things, but execution and delivery are lacking.
Next, the former Warforged Wizard.
I love this pose. I love this guy. I love the figure as a base Warforged Wizard but I love it even more for different classes. Snipping the staff and reshaping / sanding those parts was incredibly easy ... for novice modelers this isn't a bad place to start some weapon-swaps, etc.
If you recall I toyed with a number of different options for this guy but ended up going w/ a thief/rogue approach, putting a shortsword / dagger in his right hand and leaving the left hand empty. I didn't get around to doing the rope (leave that for another model) but instead got right into painting.
This one, I have to say, I'm far more happy with the results.
Nearly everything got a coat of black. The cloak also got a dark blue drybrushing to give it some depth. The details on the cloak design for the back I picked out in bright garrish yellow (yellow and black are great contrasting colors). The body pieces I drybrushed w/ a shining gold ... this ends up looking pretty dark given I've just drybrushed and not actually painted solid gold. For the highlight points I picked out some of the cloth items in red, a bracelet and other metal bits in silver.
The leathers were also brown on this figure, but I used overall darker tones than I did on the first. The potion container I swiped from an old 40k plastic marine I painted in a green; it looks pretty spiffy in my opinion and really draws your eye in. For the eyes I used a very light blue.
This one I really like. I need to finish the base; not sure how I'm going to do that, but I'll figure something out.
Front view.
In this picture you can see the asymetric shield I've got on the figure to th left.
Bad picture. I should remove it.

Rear view.
Another rear view. You can see the potion canisters, crossbow, etc. on the right-hand figure pretty well ... and the cool yellow on the cloak.
My next project will be using the bits from the old WFF and another WFW to make a WF Knight-ish looking dude. | | Triangle DDM Skirmish Group | My Email | 45-ish trades and counting | Stuff for Trade * * * Show your brother some love and click here * * *

| The camera doesn't do them justice. I've finished my third warforged mod; this one based on the Wizard as well. Instead of the staff he's got a shield (left) and has an arblade affixed to his right arm. On the face of the shield I put the front part of a face from a Warhammer Epic Titan ... big, robot-ish looking face. For the paint on him I did ... - Body in basic silver, similar to the base model - Weapons / shield in silver - Highlights on key pieces in a burnished gold (face on the shield, scrollwork on weapon, metal bit on forehead) - Cloak in light gray / white - Highlights on cloak in blue - Leather bits in a lighter color than the first mod, close to the original orange color of the leather on the original - Eyes on shield and face in red
He doesn't look as menacing as the jet/yellow conversion but has a more "champion of warforged / knight / whatever" look to him. I'm going to try and borrow a friend's digital camera tomorrow and snap some real pics. My paiting isn't the best in the world, but it isn't horrible. I do like those two conversions though ... alot. | | Triangle DDM Skirmish Group | My Email | 45-ish trades and counting | Stuff for Trade * * * Show your brother some love and click here * * *

Great work Chris, I can't wait to see your third one.
