Nice Earth Elemetal. How long did it take to paint?

If I remember correctly, I did the underlying colour in one night, then it took me more than 2 weeks to do all the black rocks (it was hard to get motivated to paint when it was just more (and more) black rocks) - it probably ended up as about 5-6 sessions of 2-3 hours. It's a good thing it turned out well - or I'd be very annoyed.

Thanks DF - my reaction was similar [:D].

Your elemental came out better than mine; you have better skill at blending, somethnig I seriously lack as an amateur. Aesome job [:D]

Elf SpearGuard is sweet! lots of details come to life and once again kudos to your blending [:D]

Pretty much same as mine, do the lava first which is rather quickly and then get yourself a ton of patience as painting each rock is a pain in the arse! But I have to say I did finish the rocks in about 8 hours (roughly 3 nights) and the dry brushing (not showing in my pictures) for the ash look was about 2 hrs or so.

Thanks for your kind comments everyone.
The earth elemental is not really blended (at least by my definition) it's just painted in about 5 consecutive colours from my set of paints - the edges of each colour are a bit thinner, but it wasn't anything complicated.
The banner of the spearguard was my first attempt at proper blending - it has 2 colours straight from the bottle, then 3 mixes in between (and highlights and shades of each of the 5 colours) - all thinly overlaping the colour before. I'm very happy (and somewhat amazed) with how well it turned out.
Eventually I'll get confident enough to attack my spare red wizard, but I haven't even decided what colour I want him to be - just that I want the robe to be blended. But, until then I have a heap of commons and uncommons to work on. So many ideas, so little time [V].

Don't feel bad there, I am highly plagued by that; I haven't repainted anything in almost 2 months, although I did build the little shack and the tower from fantasy cutouts.

Wow. That's a great job on the Spearguard. Had to look at it several times just to take it in.

How did you do the blending? You started with the two colors, did you let the paint dry in between coats? With 5 colors, did you paint 1/5 of the banner with one color and then touch up the borders?

Again, great job.

Mike

Thanks Toxic_Rat.
I painted it in thirds first (the two colours, and the even mix), then after they had dried I painted over the 2 joins with a mix of the colours on either side, dragging out diluted paint at the edges (to thinly cover the colour underneath). I think this is called wet blending, but I'm not sure. Then I think I went back with very thin coats of my first colours anywhere where the new join was noticable.
I think it was easier than it might have been because the colours are of similar intensity, and are pretty close to each other (a clear blue and a slightly blue-ish green). Thinking about it now, I've drawn a colour wheel, and worked out that it probably ended up at less than 15 degrees an increment. (I don't know if that means anything to anyone else, but it will help me remember what worked [:)]). Next time I get my paints out I might do some experimenting with some other colours and see if there is a magic number that's good to use.
Thanks for listening to me ramble - I'll be quiet now [:)]

Like everyone else who's painted, I'm awestruck by that banner. That's something to be proud of.
