| If you just want to get your feet wet I'd grab a large uncommon that doesn't need much work done and just do some touching up like highlights or shadows (since you don't want to do rares).
You have more surface to work with. As a beginner (and I still do) just clean the mini with soap and water and paint on, I don't remove any paint nor do I prime (except for my white weretiger) it is a lot quicker and gets you practicing.
Go acrylic all the way and finish your work with a matte sealer coat.
Have fun and posts your pics here [:D] I am a sucker for repaints. | | Trades >> Completed: 49 | Bad: Ø | Pending: 0 | Trade & talk Live on IRC! SERVER: irc.psionics.net CHANNEL: #maxminis

Ok, I don't get it, you've asked this question before and you showed yourself you were able to post pictures. Some of us went into detail how to do it. Am I missing something?
This is the very thread where you asked that same question.

| I'm a beginner and started out with Large Uncommons. I found them easier to paint, less fine detail required, and I didn't want to ruin a Rare [)]
My FLGS has a painting demo once a month. The Destrachan was my first. I've never used a primer on DDM plastic, just painted the Destrachan green all over as a base coat. First coat will look very plain and boring. But once it has dried, you start building up shades and highlights. From your base colour, add a drop or two of white and paint over any raised surfaces. From you base colour, add a drop or two of black, and a few drops of water to create a wash, then paint into any crevices or deep areas, the paint run into any gaps. Highlgihting and shading is to create the illusion of depth, and gives your figure more three-dimenionality.
These were the very basics I picked up from the demo, and are a good place to start. Since then, I have experimented a bit with the Chraal, reversing the standard shading/highlighting technique, as he has bright lava glowing from the inside crevices, and cooling lava darkening on the outside.
The good thing about pre-painted DDM figures, is that if you have two of them, you can use one as a guide while painting the other. For example, I was checking the detail on the original DDM Chraal as a guide the whole time I was repainting my Lava Chraal.
You can see my attmepts in http://www.maxminis.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9958
Good luck, and hope to see some pics of your efforts when you're done [:)] | | http://www.maxminis.com/hwlist.asp?user=DarkWhite [for trade only within Australia, no overseas trade thanks]

Hey Glumag.. SL XT asks alot of questions that seem silly to me and repeats them. Why? maybe just to increase his post count.

| HEY!!HEY!!!HEY!!!!![:(!]
I'm not trying to increase my post count. I am just trying to get some questions answered. I have found out that I can't post any pics unless they have a personal adress. I can't post pics straight off my pc and I was wondering how other people do it. Also I can't post pics off of maxminis like say trying to post a picture of a Chrall from the gallery.
I HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE MISJUDGE ME AND THINK THINGS THAT AREN'T TRUE!! [:(!] | | Disipline is the only way to overcome chaos. Champion of Half-Golems Knight of Golems "This world is made for love and peace" - Trigun "anyway..shadow..you've figured women out. KUDOS." - raye_kino16

Ask your questions in a thread and keep following up in that thread.
I have to go off topic but yeah, I like to see the board nice and clean and if you already openned a thread about something, keep at it. I am no one to talk about post counts, but I defenitively like to see these boards efficient. [)]
And to be clear #1 I never judged you, I just wanted and answer as to why; and #2 it was made clear that u cannot post pics from your computer already. That is all [:D] | | Trades >> Completed: 49 | Bad: Ø | Pending: 0 | Trade & talk Live on IRC! SERVER: irc.psionics.net CHANNEL: #maxminis

| hmmm back on topic here...incase it gets locked. [:(] I would start with the slasher troll...its a large and the most you can do with it is highlight the details out more. Which you can do with a little bit of dry brushing with a little lighter green. So that the darker green is in the shaded and grooves. Its a large uncommon so your not wasting a rare and they do look a bit better when they are done. | | Champion of the Peryton Vindicated Champion : Pit Fiend, Devourer ATG: Fog Giant DW: Duergar Priest RPG Only!!!! | not to be difficult...[:D] But I am going to offer an opposite view to the starting large idea from Yack. While starting Large is a a good idea since it is a larger canvas to work on any mistakes you make are going to glare at you; the painter. I would suggest starting small. Say, like one of the halflings like Lidda. This is just my idea and the way that I was taught to paint all those years ago...
The main thing is to have fun and enjoy the painting for the sake of painting. All the rest is theroy and window dressing...[)] | | Ambassador of FUN!!!

| I'm going to start with one of my Chralls. I'm going to try and paint him like the picture in the Monster Manual.

| | Looking at the chaarl from the book. It looks like a "reverse" shading. Much along the lines of lava or fire. Where the lighter colors are where darker colors would be on a normal model. I would suggest going with a white base coat and build up from it...but this is me. | | Ambassador of FUN!!! | |

I am lazy [)] I will only do the white coat on the grooves, much like I did with my magma elemental. Work the shades from there. [:D] | | Trades >> Completed: 49 | Bad: Ø | Pending: 0 | Trade & talk Live on IRC! SERVER: irc.psionics.net CHANNEL: #maxminis

| | I really would like too see a pic of it when you guys are done... so I can get a idea. Cause I picture it in my mind with a light color first (for the shade) and then the dark color over top...but in my head I just can't picture the paint looking that well. But if yours are nice I'm going for it!! [:D] | | Champion of the Peryton Vindicated Champion : Pit Fiend, Devourer ATG: Fog Giant DW: Duergar Priest RPG Only!!!! The Drumming Drunkn' DM | |
