I don't have your specific camera, but maybe it just automatically uses the flash if there's not enough light.
My suggestions would be, get more light on your subject (indirect sunlight is usually the best), or, try covering the flash with a tissue, or something similar - this will diffuse the light a bit, and cut down on the glare.
Hope it helps.

Often you can take better pics without flash, at least if you have good lighting / during daylight. You'll just have to use a tripod or brace the camera so it won't shake during taking the photo. You can also use self -timer and step away from the camera while it takes the photo.

The best solution is to take the picture outside, during daytime of course [)]
If the flash still goes off and you have no way to manually deactivate it then I suggest that you grab a small flashlight and aim it right at the sensor eye, this will fool the camera that there is enough ambient light not to use flash. If after all this still insists on radiating photons then kindly go back to walmart and get your money back [)]

Some of the cheaper digital cameras are not designed for extreme close ups and it is very likely that you will not be able to get it to focus on something that close. I own a similiar camera and it is very good for what it is. With the added memory card, it can take quite a few pictures and when taken outside, they are good quality. I have it because it is a good pocket camera to take out when I go out with my son.
