You mentioned in the original thread (just tried to find it, but failed...), that you had broken your storage of figures into 8 categories, Human, Demi-Humans, Orcs, Other Humanoids, Outsiders etc.
Can you shoot the boards a note with what they were? I'm starting my own sort, and I assume that you found that what you did worked well for equal container sizes... I'd like to replicate that!

Hmmm, don't recall much of that but I can tell you how I have them distributed; which only makes sense to me...don't even have a method just what seems logical in my head
I have now 5 boxes but let's pretend there are 4 (5th box is mostly Balor, a few other multiple biggies) [)] My 6th box is a different shape and it has the Huges. All in all I can fit 1,580 in 4.25 boxes and 14 huges in the other one.
Each box is a faction and each box has tons of separators so I have broken it down to more than 8 but I will give ya a couple of examples, hope it helps and if ya want pics lemme know:
My LE Box has 20 sections (but in reality it could have up to 26 'single' sections:
LG/LE has a double section LE/CE undead has a double section Dragons Hobgoblins and Ogres have a triple section Animal/Fungi/lycans Human Commanders Reptile humanoids draconians Large Outsiders has a double section Humanoid Fighting type Duergar/Monks/Half-Elves S/M Outsiders Manticores Goblins Kobolds LE Undead has a double section Constructs and bladeling fighters elementals Fire Giants has a double section Aberrations has a double section My LG box has 20 (of 26) sections:
LG/CG has a double section ANY has a four sections Maruts/Iron Golems have a double section Knight type Commander knight type Clergy Fighters ametal Fighters/missile type Monks Warforged Animal-type Dragon has a double section Constructs has a double section Dwarves has a double section Halflings The grey dudes (goliath, stonechild, rhek) Elementals has a double section Outsiders/M. Paladins has a double section

| Hmmmm
Well what happened to teh original thread? Maybe it wasn't your parsing.
I purposefully went out and found myself 8 good boxes because the post made a good bit of sense. I can remember some of the boxes (1 for humans, 1 for demi humans, 1 for monstrous humanoids, 1 for Elementals/outsiders), but can't for the life of me remember the other....
I'll try to dig again and find the original stickied topic.

| I see you found it [:D]
The people I play minis with doesn't buy them so I am the sole provider for the minis so carrying around 8 to 11 boxes would make little sense, my 4-5 is all I need. When I DM I only need to carry a much small box with the encounters already picked and the possible random. | | Trades >> Completed: 49 | Bad: Ø | Pending: 0 | Trade & talk Live on IRC! | I provide all the minis for our games and only DM about half the time so I haul about 1500 minis to each game. I have them sorted into 6 medium boxes, 3 large boxes, and 1 small box (for minis I know I'm going to need -- PCs, etc). The entire set up fits into a rolling suitcase. For a while, I kept my rulebooks in there too (I could fit about 8 different books in) but found that I could hardly lift the damn thing with all that stuff in there. | I have my minis organized into storage cases. I have them sorted by creature type, with many creatures getting more than 1 box (i.e. Aberrations 1-3, Outsiders 1-6, etc.).
Here's the stack of them: http://happyhikers.ca/OtherStuff/PictureUploads/DCP_1838.JPG
Here's examples of how they're arranged: http://happyhikers.ca/OtherStuff/PictureUploads/DCP_1841.JPG http://happyhikers.ca/OtherStuff/PictureUploads/DCP_1846.JPG http://happyhikers.ca/OtherStuff/PictureUploads/DCP_1847.JPG
Cards I have in binders filed by set.
We usually game at my house and this allows for me to rapidly access whatever figure I need. It also keeps them well protected and safe from wear and tear as well as any potential feline predators. | | Have: Cat; Want: Storm Giant Champion of Anything Dragonlance Before trading, please check the Disputed Trades Thread

| Thanks yack.
They are pretty deep. I usually buy about 2-3 cases of minis per set and it averages out to 4.5 of those boxes per set. Obviously they're rearranged and mixed by creature type though, that's just an average value.
There are a few figures that just don't fit: Celestial Pegasus, Wyvern, Balor, Aspect of Nerull, King Snurre, and of course all of the huge figures. I have them stored in a large drawer. | | Have: Cat; Want: Storm Giant Champion of Anything Dragonlance Before trading, please check the Disputed Trades Thread

| LM, how many minis in total do you have? That's a lot of boxes [:D]
I love the setup because you have them very organized and they are all like standing up and neatly arranged but that does take a ton of room, something I lack, maybe in the future.

According to my records: 2,590 minis and counting.[:D] That's nothing compared to some. Zenako I believe is well over the 10,000 mark. I wonder how he stores his minis.

Thanks! I'm glad you like it. I spent a lot of time organizing them. I can be pretty anal sometimes.[:D]
The whole set up, including all my RPG books, campaign notes, figures and trade bucket all fits in the gaming corner of my home office. The setup actually take up much less room than you might think. You would hardly notice it if you weren't looking for them.
However things are about to change. My fiance moves in with me in a few days... We'll see how much extra room I have then.[B)][:D]

| How do I store my figures? Not well enough according to my wife.
Nicer, painted Chainmail figures are mostly on display shelves. Others are in foam trays.
Nicer large DDM rares are also on display shelves. Other rares are kept in a Games Workshop case - ready to go to a tournament at any time. The commons and uncommons are kept in their original case boxes so it's easier to find what I'm looking for.
I also keep commonly played warbands in Ziploc bags. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades.

I don't doubt it. I only have 5 red wyrmlings.[:I]
I have 2 of every other rare dragon, including the huges. It's hard for me to imagine encounters with more than 1 or 2 dragons, even in a Dragonlance campaign. | Heh, well, first and foremost, if I didn't have a sizable dragon collection, no one would take my fantacism seriously. [:D]
Second, in my demented imagination, dragons are my preferred "giant." Sure, I've managed to collect multiples of all the worthwhile giants (the hunched giant = teh lame), but they aren't the same -- at least, to me.
Third, they are my signature obsession! Most everyone has at least one type of creature they enjoy obtaining a large number of, be it undead, orcs, bugbears, whatever. I simply make my obsession more public than most (see #1 above) [)]
I also dream up some crazy scenarios, and I wnat to be sure I have the dragons to cover my needs. [:D] | | Trade & talk in real time on IRC! SERVER: irc.psionics.net CHANNEL: #maxminis SOFTWARE: PC | PC (free) | MAC

| I have 2 sets of miniatures, one for skirmish and another for RPG. In my skirmish set I have 1 of each mini in each set and multiplies of important ones in each faction.
Anyone have any good ideas on how I would transport my skirmish minis?
Currently I have a fishing bag that hold 8 divided plactic containers. Each one is dedicated to a set. I have a nice size plastic tool box that contains all the cards in Deck Boxes by faction and set (2 same color per set), all my tiles, overlays, markers, pens ect, and a box that takes up little less then 1/2 the bottom for over large minis that do not fit in the fishing bag. With the current 8 sets my containers are filled. At events many players end up borrowing from me so that is another reason I have at least 1 of every minis (- huge, another tool box that does not come with me often)

I was thinking your post was going to be suggestions, and it turned out to be a plea for suggestions. I know what you bring to events, and you are on the verge of drowning if another carrying thing were added to your stuff.
Maybe that type of luggage on wheels that has the handle you can pull out. Put the containers in it and also buy another fishing bag from Walmart for the containers.
These aren't exactly polished suggestions, but they are the kernals of ideas. | | "Look to God and live." Alma 37:47 Vindicated Champ of Hippogriff (Arcadian Hippogriff) and Uncommon Horse

| spikegif - maybe (though it's almost to terrible to mention), you could pull out the Harbinger and Dragoneye that no-one in their right mind would ever use, and then combine what is left into 1 box (which would give you a spare for Wardrums). You'd just have to make sure that the list of what was left out was easily available (and maybe it could include alternate suggestions if they were applicable - ie. use a Troll Slasher instead of a Troll). It depends on what the people you lend too like to use (and whether they are in their right minds or not [:)]). I play some very strange things from time to time, but they are usually from the more recent sets. You could probably get rid of stuff like the Medusa, and no-one would even notice it was missing. Just another option (without increasing the storage space). | | | |

Works quite well for me. I have 6 medium boxes, 3 large boxes, and a small box with space left over for cards, books, or more miniature boxes. I figure I have about 1500 minis currently in there. And the wheels are a god-send -- lugging it around can be strenuous at times! http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/tbrehaut/Minis_Open.jpg

Would this mean you would keep some of the skirmish worthy figures from those two sets with your skirmish sets? Like tiefling captain, wolf, orc warrior, etc? | | "Look to God and live." Alma 37:47 Vindicated Champ of Hippogriff (Arcadian Hippogriff) and Uncommon Horse

| I keep my minis sorted into plastic shoeboxes obtained from the Container Store ($1.50 apiece). Cards are stored in set order in white cardboard longboxes.
Initially, I sorted by alignment into a couple cardboard boxes. Then it was sorted by set. Then it moved to size and set. Now its changing to rarity and set. Bottom line, some pieces (Dromite Wilder) are harder to find than others (Balor) when you're keeping them in a bin. There's so many different categories you can assign to pieces that organizing them is difficult. And then WOTC throws out some random piece (Mad Slasher) to completely screw your system...
I'd do the nifty little multiple-divider boxes, but those cost money I'd rather spend on the product itself. $4.50 per expansion seems tolerable for now. If I hit the point where I am no longer playing skirmish and primarily RPG, then I'll sort by creature type.
| | Thanks for the memories. :) | |
