| I was wondering if anyone had experimented with dissolving or cleaning off the factory glue on D&D or Star War miniatures.
I'm thinking about doing a few simple conversions, which would be easier if I dissassemble the miniatures at their pre-existing joints. It's fairly simple to pop apart most joints, but there is also the issue of cleaning off the remaining / extra glue.
I'd like to avoid melting miniatures in the process, and preferrably damage the paint as little as possible.
Thanks [:)]

| I have no experience with exactly what you ask but most regular average glue comes apart with warm vapor (too much heat and indeed you will melt them) but go as hot as you can without destroying them and see if they budge after a while.
If we were to know what kind of glue they use to put them together it would help greatly.
They also have tough adhesive removers (cheap $) at home depot and I imagine, your local harware store...you could give that a try with a wrackspawn.
Other than that, without knowing what they use, I am afraid I can't be of much help.
Good Luck and show us, if successful, your conversions [:D] | | Trades >> Completed: 49 | Bad: Ø | Pending: 0 | Trade & talk Live on IRC! SERVER: irc.psionics.net CHANNEL: #maxminis | |

| Sometimes I've got extra glue on a figure and it's a semi-clear sharp edges lump that I can snap off. That pretty much meets the requirements for excess super glue. At my local store they've got thin, medium, thick glues and a superglue solvent all hanging in a row. I'd try that.
I've been doing Rackham figs for a while so my plastic experience is limited, but I just picked up some plastic cement. (basically plastic solvent for styrenes) I'm putting together a bunch of warhammer figures right now, but I'm pretty curious if I can use this on DDM figs (pretty sure they're NOT styrene a.k.a. hard plastic), I'll give it a try soon. Best part about solvents is they not only dissolve the material locally to create a bond--but they dissolve the material locally so you can pull it apart if you want before you stick it back together!
