One of these days I'll finish his brother (primed and base coated I've just been busy with other things).

| | This thread shows a perfect example on how the same sculpt can look great by two different styles of painting [:D] Nice job guys! | | Trades >> Completed: 49 | Bad: Ø | Pending: 0 | Trade & talk Live on IRC! SERVER: irc.psionics.net CHANNEL: #maxminis | |

Yup, same here, although I have 6 reaper minis that I did some basing and stuff and haven't gotten around to taking pics...I will rectify the problem soon tho. | | Trades >> Completed: 49 | Bad: Ø | Pending: 0 | Trade & talk Live on IRC! SERVER: irc.psionics.net CHANNEL: #maxminis

| | Between work and school I barely have time to sleep. Not that I am counting down till spring break 24 days just in case you were curious I think that I am going to bite the bullet and re-base all the Umberhulks and other metal D&D figs that I have around.....then again I might just paint some more stuff....[:D] | | Ambassador of FUN!!! | |

Sleep is overrated [:P]
In regards to the base...I stole the 40mm base from a Gallowsgaunt and sculpted the "rocks" from two-part epoxy. The sandy texture was created using granulated sugar. I've now learned that craft sand is MUCH easier to use (although the sugar tends to stick better it also tends to dissolve when you paint it). While the Umber Hulk came with a 1" square base the sculpt itself is sized appropriately (unlike the Cyclops or Troll).
I like the reddish-brown color scheme of the other referenced Umber Hulk. Looks like it just burst into a room with lots of lava flowing and the light is reflecting.

| Nice job. This is a big improvement over the Harbinger sculpt.

Thanks, I have been told sleep is over hyped but I am kinda fond of it.
As to the sand you can use gravel or normal sand. Just paint it black and then high light with a gray and call it done. Or black then a quick dry brush of white and then brown and then an ink/wash of brown does the trick. I have never tried sugar, but for crystals of like ice and such the looks is dead on...[:D] | | Ambassador of FUN!!!

| | Again, we have two nice Umber Hulks. While the Harbinger one makes me happy, these are certainly a step better sculpt-wise with their highly textured shells. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades. | |

| The individual efforts look great, guys!
The only thing I have against this sculpt are the feet. They look far too small to support the weight of such a large, hulking [:P] creature. | | Trade & talk in real time on IRC! SERVER: irc.psionics.net CHANNEL: #maxminis SOFTWARE: PC | PC (free) | MAC

| Right, I would agree with that. However, the creature does burrow a lot and is rather insectoid. So I would think the legs have the same type of qualities as say a grasshopper. More of a springing ability than an actual "walking".
Okay, it is really early in the morning and I need more coffee. I just made a supporting argument of an umberhulks legs? [:D] | | Ambassador of FUN!!!

| | The DDM version is definately thicker, and i'd worry about how fragile some of those extremities look, but the detail can't be beat. Looks good. | | Champion of the Entire Monster Manual 1! (Click link to see current progress!) Uncommon Painting Competition 2 Winner | |

The Umber Hulk is about 1/3 pound of metal. They're extremely sturdy. The DDM and Pre-Chainmail Umber Hulks are very close to the same size, actually. The DDM is shorter with stumpy arms, fat "Popeye" arms when compared to the others. The DDM also has comparatively NO detail which makes me sad. | | Knight Warlord a.k.a.
