Hi all,

This is my first repaint for a DDM, I chose the Hill giant barb because he is the coolest looking piece I have.

There are 2 sets, both with different lights. Not sure which one looks the best.

The second set

I'm going to base it with some static flock and gravel (need to get some first though!) I'm also going to get some green stuff and fill in the huge gap on his arm.

I think it turned out ok as I havn't picked up a paintbrush in 3-4 years and that my camera doesnt seem to like zooming in any further.

Very nice! I love the fact that his eyes are slightly crossed (looks silly on most minis...looks appropriate on Hill Giants).

The lighting on the second set of shots is better. You need some cross-lighting, though, (a couple of cheapy desk lamps would suffice) since the bottom half of the mini is completely obscured in shadow.

Nicely done. It looks much better not drowning in ink wash. Did you add the scar on the forehead?

The scar/gash was already on the mini. I noticed other don't seem to have it though.

I like how the scar is more pronounced. You notice it a lot more. I think you did a good job of filling in where the original mini lacked color. I definately like the brighter color, but that could just be from the lights, I dont know.

Very nice. Your choice of skin colors is good!

The second set of pictures seems to work better, the colors are sharper.

that is one awesome skilled job for a first DDM repaint, and by the looks of it I say this is not your first time painting a miniature, ddm perhaps but not overall. Awesome colors, very fleshy [:D]

I've been painting minis since I was about 8, I was terrible when I started, I used to get more paint on my fingers than on the mini. But after a while it started to click. When I was older I worked at Games Workshop for a while, that helped alot although I was never a big fan of GW's choice of colors for a lot of stuff they do. Last mini I painted was 4 years ago at least, maybe even 5.

Then it is like riding a bike [)] cuz that is some good stuff there!

Care to share the recipe for the skin tone, or was it some out of the bottle stuff and it just looks awesome cuz of other steps?

Its a base coat of Folk art Acorn brown #941, then the muscles are built up with adding Folk arts Taffy #902. I dont usually dip the brush into water, but instead I dab it on my tongue to water it down and help blend colors together. I try and have a subtle blend of colors. Once i've built up the varying shades i'm looking for, I go back with watered down Acorn brown in the shadowed areas to make it look a bit more seamless. I dont usually remember how I mix stuff, Sometimes I have paint dry and then I have to make a new batch, thats a pain [:I]

Hope that helps
