| Thanks for the spider comments - I really enjoyed painting them (even though it seemed to take forever).
Wednesday Update: This one was an experiment - trying out a new technique so that I have an idea of what I need to do if/when I do it on something that matters. (The main thing I learnt, is that I need to workout how straight lines on cloth sit when it's draped round something [)]).
I'm reasonably happy with it - and I know I'll be able to do the cloak better next time. I'm still thinking about the shield - I might paint over the inside bits with the dark red metallic I've used on the sword hilt and clasp on the braids.
Questions, Comments, and particularly opinions on the shield are very welcome [:)]

| Thursday Update :
Greetings, Real life has once again stopped me from painting something for today [:(]. I skirmished last night, and on the drive home found out that the bulb (presumably) was broken in one of the headlights on my car - so I've spent most of the day trying to get it fixed). I'll be out again tonight, and I've got a dentist appointment in the middle of the day - so depending on how it goes there may not be an update tomorrow either.
Thanks for the comments on the dwarf - I've decided that I will repaint the shield. If anyone is interested, I found the website I copied the instructions for the tartan from (I probably should have looked at it again before I did mine, however, I'll know better next time). http://www.mordor.ch/swichert/miniatures/tutorial_tartan.html
Enjoy [:)] | | | |

| | Good job on the tartan. I have to echo the sentiment that the shield could have done with a solid color, but his kilt is really good! | | | |

| | This is such an interesting post to follow, as there is always something new. I like the updated druid very much. The Wrackspawn I am torn between loving an hating the original, and any repaint of it is going to be better than the original (which you have proved here quite well)! The cape looks great on the Dwarf, but my monitor here at the shop doesn't show the sheild up well enough. Still, a colour coordinating dwarf can't be half bad! Keep those repaints coming - I for one find them all very inspiring! | | "GameKnight Games and Cool Stuff Winnipeg's source for RPGs and minis!" www.gameknight.ca | |

| Saturday Update: Late today - I was busy earlier.
Imp.
(very hard to take photos of - I'll try again in daylight tomorrow and update these photos if I can get better ones - but I'm not sure I'll be able to do it). I'm happy with how it's turned out - even if I had to do one of the eyes about 6 times (it's not the one in the photo - that one was perfect first try [)]).
Questions and Comments welcome. [:)] - Just a note, if you do comment with a quote, please remove the pictures from the quote (it changes the formating of the thread - and my screen is not wide enough). Thanks. I'll be back tomorrow (the last day of my holidays [:(]).

I think the shield would be better served by displaying a larger tartan rather than a smaller one. Maybe only do a 4 or a 9 square grid--If you do one at all.
Shields, IMO, should display patterns that are large and simple. A purely practical aspect of that would be recognition of any symbol, pattern, etc. on the battlefield.
If you were up to it, I'd suggest shaving off the metal bindings so you have a flat surface and then resculpting the edges; leaving the center of the shield a blank slate. That should give you a sufficiently sized open area to work with.
Or just paint it with the larger design, leaving the binding "as is" making it look as if metal parts were applied over a prepainted device. | | Champion of the Werewolf Lord, Knight of Anything Duergar, and Squire of Things Gnollish List reset with the start of previews for each new set...got Chainmail®?

| Final Update (Sunday):
Back to work tomorrow [:(] - I've really enjoyed my holiday, and having your company (and comments) has made it better - Thanks.
I spent some time today reorganising my display minis (I keep all the rares and the most recent set on shelves where I can see them). It was getting too crowded, so I made what are basically trays that sit in front of my paperback books, so minis can be stored there without getting in the way when you want a book (you just lift off the complete tray). Here's a couple of pictures, in case you are interested:

They are made from 7.5cm wide balsa wood (5mm thick) with 3mm square dowel glued round all the edges.
I'm part of the way through painting a new mini, but it will probably be at least next weekend before I can finish it (I'll start a new thread once I've got a few new minis to show).
As this is the final update from my holidays, I thought a group photo was in order.
I'm really happy with them - but it would be nice to be a faster painter [)].
Thanks for looking [:D] (and yes, questions and comments are welcome)

| Nice work on all of the new repaints Meg, and thanks for sharing.
It's always an inspiration to see others' efforts. I particularly like the druid, the cleric and the ice-wall.
But now what are we going to do with our time? We may have to, ye know, paint something...or something.

| Thanks for your comments everyone - I'm glad people enjoyed the thread. I too would love more holidays to do more painting - but unfortunatley, if I don't work, they don't pay me (and I need money for more minis) [)]. About the next 4 weekends are all long weekends for me (a combination of public holidays, and RDOs), so I should get more minis painted soon.[:D] | | | |
