Several things have gotten me thinking about painting miniatures again. But as I would be starting from scratch with regards to supplies I was wondering if anybody had some recommendations on what sort of paints and brushes I should get. And do I want to start on DDM or should I pick up some metal peices and do those? Basic tips and tricks would be helpful too.

Here's a great place to start. Lots ot tutorials, hints, tricks, and tips about painting minis.

I use Delta Dreamcoat paints. They're cheap and tend to be reasonably good. If you want to use better paints go with either Vallejo or Reaper's Master Series (spendy but very nice).

For brushed I use a flat-blade brush for mixing paints. I use #1, #0, #000, #10/0, and #4/0 brushes when painting. I tend to paint 90% of everything with either the #0 or #000 (for finer detail).

Repainting DDM is quick and easy. Simply carefully (and I mean CAREFULLY) remove any flashing/seam lines, clean the mini (get any grease/dust off), prime (I brush on a primer coat), and paint.

Metal minis require a substantially greater effort to assemble but are MUCH more forgiving in regards to accidentally cutting too deep when removing flashing.

When assembling minis you'll need a craft knife (x-acto with #0 blades works very well) and super glue. You'll probably want a pin-vise (for drilling tiny holes), paper clips (for creating tiny pins), pliers, and fine-grain files (for removing more difficult flashing).
