| Right now, I'm using Folk Art. They're not the best, but they're cheap.
You just have to be prepared to thin the paint from time to time as it's very thick. | | Champion of the Werewolf Lord, Knight of Anything Duergar, and Squire of Things Gnollish List reset with the start of previews for each new set...got Chainmail®?

| Delta Dreamcoat. As cheap as Folk Arts but tends to give slightly more even coverage.
One day when I'm feeling rich, I'll upgrade to Reaper Master's Series paints. | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. Commander (#32) in only 6 months. Where's my pie? Champion of Dwarven Thunderlashers Knight of the Large Dire Chicken Have/Want List Trade References

| I find that color is more important than quality generally. The quality paint tends to be thinner, which is good. I use Testors which is I usually thin with water. Games Workshop inks, I think, work better for washing than using watery paint. Reaper is the thinnest paint I know of and the Master series comes in handy dropper bottles. I hear Vallejo is good but I do not like him so I don't buy it. Oh yeah, make sure you buy some Testors white primer (brush on) for starting a job and a can of Testors Dull Coat to seal your finished work. | | Evil triumphs when good men fail their morale saves. | |

| I mostly use Reaper Master Series (they're great), but also some Vallejo Game Colour. If you are just starting to paint, I'd suggest some cheap craft paints to see if you like it, rather than spending a lot on good paints up front. | | | |

| I have painted over 5 years now (i'm no good with brush), but just starting repainting minis that i dont like. I think that i may try Reaper paints, and maybe Vallejo too, they sell them in Finland. Thanks! | | Life is... Vindicated AtG shot: Shadow Giant (Death Titan)

I like them to. The bottles are easy to use and the paint is fairly thin. When my Reaper Pro paint runs out I am going to buy their kit. I hate the Reaper triads. Now there are like 300 paints, its all very confusing. GW has about 30, and thats all you need. Reapers paint is great, but my local stores can't stock it anymore. | | Evil triumphs when good men fail their morale saves.

| | I swear by Reaper Master Series and Vajello. You just can't go wrong with them. Now, for inks and metals, Games Workshop does an excellent job, but their basic paints leave something to be desired(the pigment grains are too big). | | Champion of the Aboleth, Prophet of Denizens. | 30 paints might be all that are needed [)], but I love having lots of choices, and therefore only having to mix paints when I want to (rather than needing to do it for every colour). As I mentioned in my review, the skin triads are my favourites (as it's so easy to get it wrong when trying to mix something yourself) - if you wanted to try them out, I'd start there. When all the Reaper Master Series have been released, there will be 216 of them, and I'm really looking forward to getting the next batch [:)]. | | | |

| Its great for some people. I don't want 216 bottles of paint. Plus my FLGS can't stock that many colors. I enjoy mixing paint myself so I do not need triads. I will admit however, I do not think i could survive without "chesnut". It is the most versatile color I own, and no other manufacturer has pinned it down like Reaper.

Delta's Brown Iron Oxide is very similar to Reaper's chestnut. I use it as the base for almost everything (various leathers, skin tones, NMM bronze, NMM golds, various furs....everything brown [:D]).
There are around 20 colors that are "must-haves." I agree with Meg, though, that it's nice to not need to mix every color you want. I've got around 80 or so paints and I pick up a couple of new shades every now and then. I'm eyeballing the Reaper Masters. Maybe I'll get them for myself for Christmas [:P] | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. | My painting took leaps ahead when I switched to using Reaper Master Series Paints. I too *hate* mixing paint.
I still use some of my Reaper Pro Paints and Apple Barrel paints though (and a couple of pots of GW), depending on the mini or the specific technique I'm trying.

| The various browns are very important for miniatures. I have about three or four different browns, and none of them seem quite right.
A good brown is critical. | | Champion of the Werewolf Lord, Knight of Anything Duergar, and Squire of Things Gnollish List reset with the start of previews for each new set...got Chainmail®?

I think what zenthrus is trying to say is Delta Ceramcoat. As mentioned they are inexpensive and can give some good results if used correctly. The big trick to working with Delta paints is learning how much to thin them out.
Reaper Pro Paints are one of the cheaper alternatives in actual "game colors" and the good starting consistancy and smooth application that they let you obtain are helpful for someone just getting into painting.
