| | So to those of you with a lot of experience with repainting DDM minis, do you strip them first or just prime over them? If you strip them, how do you do it? I have been experimenting with Acetone, which takes the paint off fine, but causes some damage to about 1 in 5 figs, making me wonder if it is even worth it. | | | |

| | I just use two rather thin coats of paint as primer. Doesn't obscure any of the detail and doesn't damage the mini. I don't think anyone's found a stripping method that yields favorable results (at least I haven't seen anyone post a solution and this topic keeps rearing its head here and on the WotC boards). | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. | If there were a more reliable way to strip them, I'd probably consider it. But, for now, things seem to be going OK just painting over the top of the existing paint scheme.
My only real problem seems to be the red I use. It's thick as taffy, but covers like gauze. [v] | | Champion of the Werewolf Lord, Knight of Anything Duergar, and Squire of Things Gnollish List reset with the start of previews for each new set...got Chainmail®?

| How do you use the acetone? Do you let them soak for a long time? You should just be dipping them for maybe 10 seconds then go to work with an old toothbrush. Make sure to wear gloves and eye protection if you have it. I also use Leather Deglazer. If there doesn't seem to be a ton of paint on then I will just prime. But if it looks like things will get obscured I strip. Just don't put them in for long and you will get no damage with either the acetone or the deglazer.

| | Do not dip a plastic mini in a stripping liquid, and definately do not let it soak in it. The thing will probably melt. First brush the solvent on a non visible spot of a lesser mini. If it does not melt then just brush on a little bit at a time until it works. | | Evil triumphs when good men fail their morale saves. | |

| | They don't melt even if you soak them. The only kind of plastic that does is the bases on MK figs. Make sure to pop those off first. For DDM minis what happens is you get some minor flaking off of the plastic if you leave them in too long. They can also get rubbery due to the solvent getting in between the polymer strands. That will dissapear once you let them dry for a day or so. Test it out with a few commons or uncommons first to get a feel. And again, for many of the newer ones the paint is thin enough to just prime over. But for any MK fig I strip it first because they CAKE the paint on and are actually very detailed underneath it all! Hope this helps. | | Good judgement comes from wisdom. Wisdom comes from bad judgement. Member Team ROH Qwijoma on Wizards Boards | |

Yeah a Layer of paint or light primer is best. I've had little luck stripping DDMS. Almost makes me wish they did a "painters series" similar to what Mage Knight did, random unpainted minatures. I certianly wouldn't mind a "Painters Series", but I'd rather see it done slightly differently. Either do a set with one of each figure or what I call a "set run" which would generate everything in the normal ratio that you would see with a set. 1 of each Rare: 3 of each Uncommon: 4 of each Common (or whatever it would be).
The problem with the Set Run is that it would be a LOT of minis--and I don't have that much time or energy! | | Champion of the Werewolf Lord, Knight of Anything Duergar, and Squire of Things Gnollish List reset with the start of previews for each new set...got Chainmail®?
