I love these guys. I hope to get alot more and get a couple of the recent Reaper fungus creatures to go along with them. The green specs on their caps and eyes are little blobs of glow-in-the dark paint, don't know if it's thick enough.

Behold pale fleshy buttocks.

Two undead for a lost city project I'm working on. (will include maps) I finished some dwarf skeletons with this batch as well, but they don't scan well. I need so many more undead, especially Karnathi Zombies.

Another fig I love that's offbeat. (along with madslashers) And just like the rest here an exercise in controlled drybrushing and inks.

Painting is so far behind the sculpting on production minis it's kinda sad. :)
Thokk: "VERY cool!! makes me want to go out and grab a few more of the guys! What paint did you use? (colors and type) Thanks for sharing!"
You mean the Myconids? The print on the labels has worn off due to constant use. :) I used a base of a chocolate brown, the rest is drybrushing doing progressively lighter drybrushings. Did a couple layers of that mixed with various amounts of Nutmeg Brown. A couple layers of Nutmeg mixed with something called Sugar Maple Tan (or something similar). And then a couple of layers of the tan mixed with white. And then a very light drybush of white. An old Gamesworkshop color called Bilious Green, but that's real old, so I don't know what it's called now, it's a step away from neon green. :) And the spots are a gloss glow in the dark green from Plaid. Alot of steps but pretty fast.
The browns and tans are Apple Barrel and Delta Ceramcoat. I use the tan, nutmeg, and the chocoloate brown colors for just about everything. If you're asking about the skeletons I did a similar process with alot fewer layers and mixed Folkart medium yellow into most of it. And added a couple splotches of nutmeg and watered down Chestnut (reddish brown) ink for color.
If you wanna know about any of the other colors just ask. | | Online Art Portfolio-http://benbrooks.lusagi.com DevArt Page-http://wolfgangbrooks.deviantart.com

Skeletons are PERFECT, but Myconids need more "underdarkish" bases. I wouldn't mind trading them for any rare from my collection though. [)] | | ~Polish~DDM~Elite~ ;-)

| Can of the Cave Beer: "Those skeletons would look great in any Warhammer army!"
Funny you should mention that. Despite my vastly diminished financial status I've been wanting to do an undead army for warhammer using 25mm undead. Mostly inspired by Ral Partha skeletons and their parts bin they take to conventions. I'm definitaley going to spend some money at Ral Partha's booth at Historicon this year. And if I can find any place that sells CMG figs at decent prices on this trip I'll be picking up as many undead from D&D as I can find. (SWM clones too :) )
And thanks for the comments everyone. | | Online Art Portfolio-http://benbrooks.lusagi.com DevArt Page-http://wolfgangbrooks.deviantart.com

| HK:"That is the best aged bone I have seen please advise on how you did them."
I just started with a dark brown and the first couple of layers is it mixed with a lighter brown and yellow. I keep working in lighter mixes, adding in a tan paint. Then I go to just tan, yellow, and white with increasingly lighter drybrush layers over smaller and more selective areas, concentrating around ridges and stuff. And then one really really light with just white just on edges, ridges and the like. Unlike most other cases where you use a drybrush technique the more powdery and messy the final result is on the figs the better it'll work as a texture for bone, then you just have to go back and clean up wherever. In this case, little bits of really watered down medium brown and red/brown ink to stain certain areas.
Really, it's all technique; knowing how your brushes and paints react when you use them. For example, the craft paints I use most often dry out faster and give more of a powdery effect the more white I mix in. And that's the result that works best on the lighter layers on the skeltons.
And aesthetics, which is studying the effect you want and figuring out what paints to mix to get it. Yellow for aged bone, a red, red/brown wash at the end for the flesh freshly stripped from bone look, or just white and tan for a bleached effect. It's also how heavy you go on things, and when to go subtle. Like the cloth/leather on the undead is all one or two layers of paint, but just one color, no highlights or shading and just letting the local lighting do it's thing. (of course, that works best with thinner paint, where it'll naturally vary because of how transparent the paint is)
Maybe I'll do up a step by step tutorial when I get back from Historicon in about a week and a half. | | Online Art Portfolio-http://benbrooks.lusagi.com DevArt Page-http://wolfgangbrooks.deviantart.com
