I thought that I would share an idea of mine with the group. Our DnD group is big on accurately representing the encounter as much as possible so when a forest encounter takes place we would set up all the trees. We play on a rather large peg board with a grid drawn on it. Setting up the trees and taking them down was a pain in the butt. Not to mention that people would constantly knock them over. So here's my solution:
I mounted a bunch of trees on a sheet of plexiglass. Now I can drop a whole forest on the board, you can still see the grid and the trees don't get knocked over. If I need a denser forest I can still add more loose trees. I'm in the process of making another like this for larger forests and it will have a clearing for a campsite.
Glue and plexi don't work too well so I screwed them on from below
The trees are a mixture of Games Workshop, Woodland Scenics, and Dollar Store Specials!

One day I will have to explain to my kids why they have to pay for their own college, but when they realize that I have a full set of Harbinger it should make sense to them...

Very neat idea... what I do is store mine in rubbermaid drawers and then roll dice on the table for a random forest. (where the die lay a tree will be placed) [:p]

Very innovative, I'll have to pass this on to my local FLGS.
Pathetic Earthlings. Hurling your bodies out into the void - without the slightest inkling of who or what is out here. If you had known anything about the true nature of the universe - anything at all - you would have hidden from it in terror.

Not to district from the forest, but that's a great way to do a game board!

Interesting idea, good thinking! Some of the plex could also be covered with some ground details without squares disappearing from below.
Great work!
