Hi All,

If you're interested, I purchased an old Grenadier Skeletal Elephant and crew some years back and finally put most of it together and painted it.  I would Post the pictures here but I'm not sure how.  If you click on the links they should take you there.

Excellent! I've always loved war elephants :D If only DQ mammoth would have been mounted by humans, I would have jumped up and down from joy!

That undead elephant is way cool..love the old bone look you went with it. Great job!

P.S. The frost giant on the mammoth is perfect for me though...

     Thanks everyone!

I was tempted to pick another DQ Mammoth to remove the giant and replace with some kind of platform with humans.  Sort of like the beasts in Lord of the Rings, but not as big.  But it would be easier (and cheaper) to buy a plastic elephant at a toy/science/nature type store and customize that instead.

I really like the Frost Giant look too, so I guess I'll leave the DQ alone and check out some toys.

I agree that Tundra Scout is a really Cool Fig - I just would have liked to have few of those and several Frost giants, alone it would have been pretty lonely I had one but traded it away for Huge Black. Kind of regret it, as black lacks any paint details and Mammoth looked absolutely fabulous...

I'm also currently thinkin of getting some toy elephants. Some paint & structures on back and they will be great! Depending on the size of the elephant and the structure that looks still good on it, I think that 2-3 medium based figures could be put in the structure unless you want to make the figs custom & cut their bases.

Thinking of that - if you're going to do mounted elephants too or just think of them - what minis would YOU put to the basket/whatever the structure is? my first thought is Xeph warrior, it looks exotic enough. Dalelands militia has downward aimed bow, as well as hobgoblin archer. Someone talked about Valenar in the new set, maybe that could fit in.

I could envision a Wand Expert or a Dragoneye Troglodyte sort of up front as a leader and then a few archers or crossbow figures behind.

Probably Dalelands Militia, Greycloak Rangers, or Human Crossbowmen would be my first choices.  Although, you could fit even more if you went with Goblin Sneaks or Kobold Skirmishers.  Maybe even some metal minis from my collection.

However I chose, I would cut off the bases and place them in realistic poses.

By the way, the box on the elephant's back is called a howdah.

Grenadier made alot of great stuff, wish they were still around. I like the way you got the brownish color on the bones. It is very much like the ancient giraffe bone they use to make knife handles. That would be a cool idea for a Tomb King army, GW should steal it.

Nice work on the Elephant.

I rather like Huge Elephants/Mastadons with howdahs. I've been considering putting a howdah of drow on the back of a Huge Fiendish Spider for giggles. I've also been considering putting a howdah of gnomes on the back of a Thaskor :D

Howdah - That's new for me, thanks =)

I should have some extra time at weekend - if I find some inspiration & suitable toy-elephants, I'll try to do some!

Hey Zenthrus,

I like those ideas !   Especially the Spider with the Drow (or maybe some Duergar).

Sean,

If you get something finished, how about posting some pix?

Sure! I visited 2 shops today, with no success. I also tried to library to find a book of medieval ships for another current project, but library was closed for the whole day for 'electricity shortage'. Strange. Tomorrow I'll try library again as well as few more stores - I know where I could get toy elephants of probably right size, but those are quality -stuff and pretty expensive

In the meantime, I could try to do some scetching about the project elephant.
