| A question for the terrain makers out there. Which resinous water effect has the most desirable properties. I currently use Woodland Scenics Realistic Water, which is a heat and pour product. It requires additional materials, it is hard and dangerous to work with, it looks fake, it only allows you to make shallow pools, and worst of all it shrinks leaving a gap between your shore and water.
I am looking for the best resin or liquid effect, like Games Workshop or Envirotex. I know they are more expensive but I believe the switch will be a wise investment. Your experiences with products like these will be much appreciated. | | Evil triumphs when good men fail their morale saves.

| Hi, I've heard nothing but good things about Envirotex. Most model railroad builders use it to great effect. It also takes color well for various effects. | | | |

| | My friend directed me to the hirst arts tutorials and the proprieter there uses envirotex. It looks like it takes 24hrs to set. Guess I'll just have to seal the seams so it doesn't leak and give it a try. | | Evil triumphs when good men fail their morale saves. | |

| | regular old two part clear epoxy resin works very well, is relatively inexpensive, takes pigments well, and is easily obtainable at most big box craft stores like Michael's and such. Just test to make sure it won't dissolve whatever you're pouring onto. I've made the mistake of turning Lava pits into just regular pits before... | | | |

| | That seems to be the product to go with. From what I've seen it dries totally level and has no shrinkage. My only other question, two part substances like epoxy and polishes sometimes get really hot when they're combined. Does Envirotex get hot enough to damage foam, plastic, or glue that it may touch? | | Evil triumphs when good men fail their morale saves. | |

To add to bigbadjon's questions: Is it toally clear, or is there any coloration in the final product? Can it be used to cast thicker scultps in a silicone mold (i.e. gelatinous cube project that I'm working on - roughly 2"x2"x2")? and last, does anyone know if it is prone to yellowing as it ages?

| Well i poured my first test pools yeterday with envirotex lite and i am very happy with the results. The box says no deeper than 1/8" but i went probably about 1/4" in the deepest section. I left the pools overnight out in the shed and it was a cool day. The laquer dried with no problems at all in one day(12-14 hours) The result:

| Really cool - I like the idea of the pool on top of some rock terrain features. It looks great. Now I'm going add some water to some of my terrain. Thanks for the pix and idea !! | | | |

| Now there's another great idea ! What are the bottom of the pools made with? They seem to be tiles of some kind. What are the raised areas? Are they foam or plaster? Did you carve them or make them using molds? | | | |

| | all handcarved out of blue styrofoam....the lines are made with an xacto knife and a Heatgun. Eveyrthing is freehand carved.(like the rock piles and isles) | | | |

| Has anyone done any casting with Envirotex Lite? I'm looking to try something new to cast the Geletinous Cube I've been working on. The stuff I'm currently using (AquaClear I think it's called) keeps turning up too many air bubbles in each attempt I've done so far. I've tried everything I've read about reducing air bubbles (and I can't afford a degassing chamber) but I'm concerned that with the Envirotex stuff that I'd obviously need to use a lot more than the recommended 1/8" for casting. I may give it a try once I've used up the stuff I've got. If so, I'll post results.

| | never tried any casting with envirotex...but one observation i did make is that there is some bubbles. I did do a multilayer cast for water (about 1/2") and the seam is not visible from the top...whether not its visible from the side i dont know. | | | |
