looking to create a dungeon setting out of blue foamcore. went to local lowes yesterday and searched the whole store for this stuff with no luck. couple of questions. if you walk into the big home stores such as home depot and lowes where is the foamcore. i thought it might be in the insulation section? was i way off. store guy had no idea what i was talking about. assuming i find it i what type is it  make thick walls possibly some cavernous looking. last question. Once i find foamcore what is the board that people mount the walls onto?

Hi!
I think you were asking for the wrong stuff...if you are looking for blue/pink insulation try asking for "polystyrene" insulation, not foamcore. Some of the popular brands would be "Cladmate" or "Styrospan"
As for wall thickness i would use 1" foam. As for the board that the walls are mounted onto i use polystyrene insulation. The maps i make are almost 100% blue foam.
Hope that helps :)

Sorta, the grains are much smaller so it does not have the same pressed cottage cheese look other styrafoam objects do.  Color wise, it comes in pink, blue and grey.

ok forget last question as i googled those brands. new questions. Ive seen your work before which is great. for your cavern walls did you just stack pieces on top of each other to create the height and best rule to make the squares necassary to track movement for skirmish/roleplay?

As for the color of polystyrene insulation...there is gray? Never seen that one before. I have used both pink and blue and they both work great.
As for your wall making question...i am writing an article on how i make maps. The article should cover your question :)

For some reason my local Home Depot had some light gray polystyrene insulation.  Prior to that, I thought it came in pink only.
