I can see uses as well for the Nothic, as well as most other monsters that bear no "medievel" looking weapons or armour.

What about warforged? I can see some of them being of use. Even thinking that in the new game I am concocting they may have a special place. That WF Wizard staff looks like it could be some form of energy staff to boot.

Basilisks would fit in swamps and many other environments.
The Taer looks a bit like a Wampa too.

A while ago someone posted the idea of turning the Warforged Wizard into a Sith Lord, which seems a really good idea to me.

I'm sure there is lots of other stuff that would work as well.

That is a good idea, repaint the cloak portion to eliminate the orange (not a Sith color), I love it.

Yeah I think that might have been me. I'm still working on a decent process to cleanly strip the minatures. Several other guys on my "Sith" List include the Renegade Warlock, Sage, Cultist of the Dragon and the Deepshadow elf.

I wa sjust going through some of my homebrewed planet sheets, things I made long before ddm hit my shelves, and I noticed a particular world I made 6 years ago.

It's inhabitants were a littl bestial in feature, strong, very honorable, but in a more ritual, less nice way than is common in "honorable" SW races. they were part of a feudal society, no technology of their own. A little touch of samurai to the armour, but weapons that weren't quite that advanced. I used to be pretty big on the Star Trek ideal of don't mess with worlds that aren't ready for it, and so I ahd plenty of worlds that met the description because characters would often hide out there, anyway I looked up from the sheet and there he was, one of my homebrewed aliens, sitting on the desk, pretending to be a Bladebearer Hobgoblin.

There are a few other handy humanoids.

Ember Human monk as she is looks good as a scout. Cut off the staff and reglue half of it and you have a nice laura croft adventurer type with gun. The one I did for my modern game looks good.

The evermet wizard suits the role of an alien priestess or princess.

Kerwyn human rogue with his knives isn't a big stretch either.

The psion from archfiends...ido...something has very little about him to suggest strictly fantasy and the sun soul initiate can be repainted a bit as a generic thug.

For wierd aliens my favorite is the Grick....man that thing rocks.

Yeah I picked up over a dozen gricks for some reason, I've got even more Bladling Fighters. Once I get my latest e-bay package I'll have over 40 of them.

I traded pretty heavily for bladeling fighters as well (no where near forty though). I haven't used them in my campaign yet since I'm saving them for my extraplanar army of horror.

Another under appreciated but very nice mini.

Someone already mentioned Otyugh as a Sci-Fi critter and I'd have to agree. It is my favorite cross over rare. A lot of aberrations cross over well since a lot of them look pretty out there...the mindflayer, grell, carrion crawler, destrachan and kruthik hatchling come to mind. The beholder is a little too distinctly fantasy though.

There's some good ones in huges: Behir, Bulette, Tyrannosaur. Well, and WF Titan of course.

The Warworld I think is going to be one of my early sessions for the game. It will help introduced some of the other critters I'm going to be using on other planets. The planned scenario is strongly inspired by the arena sequence in the animated clone wars. I'm still woking on some of the filler fighters but thus far I've picked out and started writing up the following.

HalfGiant Psycic Warrior - I'm envisioning him as a fighter with some force powers as well. First I went with a modified Soldier/Force Adept combo, now I'm settling for a Darksider Marauder with an Alcemicaly treated sword. He's going to be Mr. Cleave, or posibly ThunderCleave to his friends.

Githyanki Fighter - I want her to be and Alien finese fighter, with maybe a level or two of Force Adept. I'm going to work her Melee progression into Whirlwind attack.

Carrion Tribe Barbarian - This guy is going to be one of "snuff fights" to get the players all cocky. I figure they will be around 7th level at this point, so I'll make this fella 4th.

Fomorian - I don't think I'll have to realy change this guy at all, perfectly usable straight out of the MM.

Bulette - Ditto on this one too, I may just end up using the D&D stats and run with it.

What would be cool is to use a group of formian workers, all one hive mind, so they count as one opponent or some such.

I've only got three Fomorians.... need more.. But I do have a couple of Xills. They can be used as maybe a fighter or warrior castle, with the Fomorians being workers. I like the Idea of the working together, they all look the same so maybe if I use them one at a time it will look like one Alien bounty hunter teleporting.

Xills and Chitines have primitive cloting and weapons.

Thats not to say that there arent primitive aliens in SW....look at Ewoks...its just that they definitly give off a "this is a D&D mini" kinda vibe.

Certain monsters like Griffons, Beholders and Dragons also scream D&D as well

Formians are a great choice...There arent many DDM that make good alien races. Most DDM thats usable are monster aliens (Wampa, Rancor ect).

Heres what I personally think make great aliens and monsters for Star Wars:
Crested Felldrake
Shambling Mound
Thri-Kreen Ranger
Barghest
Displacer Beast
Hell Hound
Owlbear *
Umber Hulk *
Dire Lion
Medium Air Elemental (makes good ooze-like alien)
Dire Ape
Large Monsterous Spider
Nothic
Abyssal Evicerator
Basilisk
Meduim Astral Constuct
Dire Wolf
Otyugh *
Dire Rat
Lemure
Blue Slaad
Displacer Serpent
Ettercap
Grick
Treant
Behir
Bulette *
Fiendish Tyrannosaurus
Formian Warrior
Etherial Filcher
Achaierai
Destrachan
Fiendish Dire Weasel
Hook Horror *
Myconid Guard
Choker
Chuul
Fiendish Giant Praying Mantis
Mad Slasher
Taer
Dire Bear
Giant Frog
Ambush Drake
Grell
Kruthik Hatchling
Fiendish Monsterous Scorpion

* = Only suitable for players who dont know D&D. Otherwise they are to recognizable and ruin the SW feel.

There are also TONS on DDM to be primitive alien races. Lizardfolk, Catfolk, Rheks ect.

Has anyone actually found or created stats fitting for a ddm monster for swm? Behir is the one I'm most interested in fitting into my game, but I might want to wait until the players gain a few levels... Blasters are sure an advantage compared to D&D, so if circumstances are right, you could put much harder opponents against players.

It's not too hard realy, the only thing you have to think a bit about is the armor bonus vrs armor damage reduction. Most of the other stuff translates rather well into SW, that is if you are avoiding some of the stranger spellcasting monsters. You would be best off giving them some innate force abilites instead.

Personally I can think of a few figures I would like to use in SW RPG, but not as themselves at all.

What I mean is I can totally see myself someday pulling out that Behir, it's one of the nicest sculpts DDM has ever produced. But the Star Wars creature it represents will be more like a Krayt Dragon than a Behir, the powers will not be at all the same. Just the appearance.

Of course, if I was going for the same powers, would the Behir be a dark Side creature able to cast Force Lightning?

I through a few Grick into my game last night, and have been cutting up some of the Uncommon Iconics and named characters to use as NPC's

Cut off of sword and bow of the Deepshadow elf (make a decent Corrlian Jedi), the dale lands Milita, sans bow, is ok too, and the Catfolk, were de-bowed and used as Cathar as well as the Cleric of Order, some work good with repaints to look more SW.

Did the same thing as minatoman38 mentions to Kerwyn, the Evermet, and the Psion Idabod, . basically anything i thought looked good, a lot of people have covered a number of the ones i did for my game.

I've been thinking about what the future will hold for SW RPG in the upcoming Angelfire set. Imps and the like could have some uses (as Mynocks if nothing else). But the greater amount of outsiders could provide some great aliens, perhaps even a couple "arena beast-esque" monsters.

Thinking about it there were some "angelic" and "demonic" looking aliens back in the old Marvel Star Wars comics weren't there? They got stats for d20 done up in an early SWG issue.

Come to think of it the perfect D&D critter to represent the Mynock would be the darkmantle. I'm liking the new critter shown in the Angelfire preview II, the steel beast right? It looks like it would be right at home as an arena monster.

I recently cleaned my office, and as a side effect I lined up my DDM huges near the computer and I notice;

The Behir looks a lot like one of the relatives of the Star Dragon, found in the alien anthology (name escapes me at the moment)

And a Warforged Titan could be the nastiest droid encounter on record. I'm leaning towards slightly clunkier technology in my SW campaign, so he's perfect.

The Acklay and Reek are 2 of the 10 huges is SWU.
The Nexu is a large.

So yeah all 3 will be in the set....they will be highly saught after by SWM and D&D roleplayers alike.

There are pics out there of the Nexu and Reek...but no Acklay yet.
