After, this repaint I kinda got the bug. I wanna do more repaints. Up until now I have been pretty satisfied with metal minis. BUt there are going to be more re-paints. I am looking at redoing the gulgars I have and I am going to update the ol H/W to get a few more.
I really want to take this chance to thank smithmeg. This "contest" was a great idea and really brought this "corner" closer. I, as I am sure others around here, can remember there being hesitation from Merric about the amount of "foot traffic" this type of thread would see. But with contests like this the great painting pics from runelord the overall helpful attitude of modelers, repainters and painters alike this is another shinning reason this community , although a little quirckie at times, is a great place to be in the cyberspace....thanks again smithmeg for bringing the community closer.... | | Ambassador of FUN!!!

I love the free hand on the cap. It really turns an otherwise boring back of the tiefling into something pretty amazing. Great job.

| There are some really nice ones there, guys. I am very impresses at the work and level of detail many of you are getting. For some reason I am finding this one very hard to paint. I am certain mine will be somewhat sub-standard but I will soldier on nonetheless.
Mine will be coming tomorrow, asuming I can actually get some work done on it tonight. I did some work on it last night but not a helluva lot. Nothing like leaving it to the last minute, eh?
Cheers.

Thanks for the suggestion. The bright picture was taken outside. Every light constellation I did in-house was missing the purple/black/red colors and the sun on the other hand is very bright. Right there with ya!! [)] It wasn't until I was getting frustrated with the minis not turning out like I was seeing them that I started doing a bunch of on line reading about "light boxes". Light boxes are litle enclosed light controlled studios. These studios are where you can take pictures of small items with a digital camera and not get them bleached out by the brightness.
I found a really good article about doing a light box search on google at work. I will look for the article when I have a chance. Right now I have to go watch Dr. Who with the wife....gotta get those priorites straight....otherwise she might turn into a daelek and want to exterminate this would be Dr...[:o)] | | Ambassador of FUN!!!

Good things so far, I like them all too much to pick one, but I really liked the wings on Thokk's entry.

| Less than a day to go!!! and I'm still painting. [)]
Everything is looking great. I'm glad you're all enjoying it (so am I) [:)]. Well done everyone.
griffrat: the sword is brilliant, and the cloak is the perfect complement to all the other colours. Well done, it looks great. Wyzdum: glad you could make it [:)]. The blue sword is really cool , and the cloak is great. ilarue: Wow!! it looks fantastic. Great colours, great painting. Caustic_mouse: Cool - very nice red cloak, and the black horns look really good. Jenkiis: I like that skin colour - it really makes it stand out. - and the yellow lines round the leather work well too. The freehand on the cloak is good, but maybe black, or gold, or yellow would have worked better? jasonbostwick: I love the light blue armour - looks fantastic. (the rest is really good too). madda: the green, and red and brown work really well together, and the silver and gold are very good too. Thokk: Great idea for those wings, and the cloak is a beautiful colour. The armour looks great too. glumag: Thats great for 4 hours. I really like the blue and purple metal, and the blue cloak is fantastic. Sulaco: cool - no horns tiefling [:)]. I don't know what you are complaining about - the painting looks great.

| Well, I just managed to get the digital camera. I'm still tweaking the pictures, and should have them uploaded sometime this evening.
I'm very impressed by what we've seen so far, it's great to get the community going on something like this.
Edit: Whoo-hoo, Photobucket!!
The TB didn't turn out quite the way I wanted. I'm fine with the blue tint from the wash as it's sort of the look I was going for.
But the red wash on the armor didn't go as well as I would have liked. I was looking for more of a "that's human skin..." look to the armor, and it failed. It's not a horrible look (IMO) but it doesn't succeed, either.
The blades are "OK". I wanted them black on purpose. No metallic look, etc. I was going to try painting "stars" on them (perhaps to reflect the number of kills that this Blademaster had earned), but I forgot about that after I had to redo the armor for the third time. | | Champion of the Werewolf Lord, Knight of Anything Duergar, and Squire of Things Gnollish List reset with the start of previews for each new set...got Chainmail®?

| SmithMeg~ I just wanted to thank you for all the disturbing nightmares I'll be haveing this week after seeing your clown-teifling. It is, without a doubt, the single most unnerving mini I've ever seen. So I blame you for my restless nights this coming week... maybe longer. I'm not sure if therapy will be required yet. I suppose time will tell. Thanks again.
Oh! And thanks for hosting this cool painting challage! My teifling is my third repaint ever. I'm likely going to go back and re-do my first two now that I've got a better idea on how the paint flows. You're an inspiration!

| As posted in the other thread, ilarue is the winner (email has been sent). Congratulations.
some comments on the new ones: Lady-Bast: very nice - the inside of the cloak is fantastic, and the base, and the tree are amazing. Can of the Cave Beer: very nice - the armour might not have turned out like you wanted, but it looks very good - and the skin looks great.
I won't comment on mine - but the clown was fun (I spent most of the time I was painting it laughing evilly)[:p].

| Congrats ilarue.
First comment: Meg...disturbing clown. Tremendous work on the "serious" tiefling. The face/eyes/hair are superb [^]
Second comment: Everyone did a great job. I enjoyed seeing what people came up with (particularly freehand work).
Third comment: Let's do this again sometime. I had fun (despite really not liking the sculpt of the tiefling) [:D] | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. Commander (#32) in only 6 months. Where's my pie? Champion of Dwarven Thunderlashers Knight of the Large Dire Chicken Have/Want List Trade References

| Plans for the future:
It seems a lot of people have enjoyed doing this, so, I think we'll plan for it to be an ongoing thing ....
I'm suggesting we do this bi-monthly (but the next one will be a little shorter (probably closing on the 1st of July), to get us more co-ordinated with new set releases - you'll have 3 weeks to get the new set, before we announce what we'll paint from it).
About a month before the date we are aiming for, I'll announce 2 minis that can be painted. One will be decided by the winner of the previous challenge, the other will be decided by whoever is donating the prize (more on this later). Same as this time, a week before the end, I'll put up a thread for photos, and a thread for comments. And we'll close the competition at midnight on Saturday same as this time, and randomly draw a winner.
A mini that is chosen will be a Common or Uncommon from the previous 2 sets, it should be an interesting sculpt that allows for some variety in repaints, and also one that we haven't previously seen a lot of good repaints of.
I'm happy to continue co-ordinating as long as you're happy to have me continue (sometimes my timezone can be a bit annoying if you try to contact me).
I prefer not to donate the prize every time (more for the overseas postage than for the value of the prize), so I'd be looking for a 'Sponsor' for each challenge - someone who is willing to put up a prize similar to what I had this time (a choice from a bunch of reasonable rares, or a repaint, or something like that), and then post it to the winner. The sponsor would then get to choose one of the minis to be painted (within the guidelines). (If we get multiple people volunteering, I'll pick one [)]).
So, what do you think? Is there anything that should be changed? Is it a stupid idea that no-one wants to do? Do you have any other ideas?
