| Sorry you had a bad experience with crap rares. It happens in DDM too. Imagine if you had blown off DDM after pulling a Thri-Kreen Ranger and a Barghest in Harbinger.
And the doubles you have are exactly whats to be expected. The starter pack is set up with very playable US and German armies. Additional boosters have a fair chance of doubles. But WotC did an excellent job of seeding the cases- much as in DDM. Very few people have reported duplicate rares within a case. The uncommons are set up in three slots: leaders, machine guns/AT guns and tanks/armored vehicles.
In any event, I urge you to give it at least one try. The game mechanic is much improved over DDM. Initiative is not as important and (unlike DDM) there are tactical reasons for going 1st and 2nd at any point in the match. Activation control is not an issue and best of all combat happens simultaneously before casualties are taken.
Bottom Line: a light tactical wargame that plays quickly and has depth of strategy.
Check out url=http://www.maxminis.com/hw_list.asp?user=Dr.Cornelius if you still want to dump AAM for DDM.

ps. Here's what I said in another thread: Differences from DDM: - Instead of moving and attacking (or double moving), each turn is divided into two phases: movement & assault (attack or move). Each player moves all of his forces in each phase, then the other player moves each of his forces in the phase.
- The practical result of the above turn structure is that combat is simultaneous, with each side rolling attacks before casualties are removed. This is a big improvement over DDM where one player can win initiative then move a mini and eliminate an opposing mini that never gets a swing. Or a player can win intiative and get multiple swings off before the initiative loser gets even one swing. Simultaneous combat increases the tactical challenge and reduces the luck.
- DDM rolls a d20 while AAM rolls a handfull of d6. d20 is a more random, "flat" distribution, with every outcome being equally likely. Rolling a handfull of d6 and counting the number of successes (typically a roll of 4+ is a success) leads to a "tighter" distribution of results, known as a bell curve.
- DDM minis move fast. It is not unusual for a mini to move 16 spaces in a turn. AAM vehicles typically move 3-10 spaces maximum. This makes planning your moves and setting up attacks of opportunity (Defensive Fire in AAM) more important.
- AAM does not have penalties for being out of command or targeting restrictions. AAM does not have morale checks, but units become disrupted (pinned).
- There is no tile placement. The maps are more like the fixed Fane of the Drow map, but can be done in semi-random configurations.
- The victory condition in DDM is basically eliminating the opposing warband, with some VPs for occuping certain areas. The AAM victory condition is all about occupying the objective area at the end of 7 turns. This makes for a more strategic game, where you can't just destroy more of the enemy's forces and win. The key is taking and holding key terrain.
Bottom Line: AAM is a very good game system. The starter box is expensive, but it contains playable German and American armies. I encourage you to jump in... | | | |

| Hey mate!
You said you were interested in some of my SWM, well I think we can make a deal. Here's an offer:
MY: Greedo Dengar Stormtrooper Commander Stormtrooper x4 (each type)
YOUR: Renault R-35 M4A1 Sherman Mauser Kar 98k Panzer IV Ausf G x2 Vickers MG Team
That's 2 rares, 1 uncommon and 4 commons for your 1 rare, 4 uncommons, 1 common. Seems fair to me, but it is negotiable. Thanks!
