I've got no experience with Vassal modding, or I'd volunteer right now. Actually, do we have anyone on the task of making a database for warband building? I'd happily take a stab at modifying Bifur's this weekend. | | -DaemonKain Proud Mascot of Team Amish

| Aside from putting the spoiler information into excel (kept up with at each update I make to the thread) I don't know if I can be much help to either Vassal or a Bifur type mod for warband building.
Let me know what would be involved and I will see what my available time is like. | | **overlong signature deleted. Please see posting guidelines**

What do you mean by "a database for warband building"? Chris and I are working on a database for logging warbands used at tournaments - is that what you meant? Actually, the database exists, but I'm working on a UI.

Yeah, I'm definately in the Psuedo camp. :) I'd be happy to try: I'll see what I can do this weekend, I just don't know how much time I'll have. I assume you can edit previous mods, which might just be the easiest thing... Could we just add it to the DDM mod? That way we could reuse much of the work already done (just with new graphics and updates on where the data is on the icon and what is editable), and also then we would all be in the same chatroom, which I think would be good.
I'm fine to do it the opposite way though. Splitting into two mods would be good to keep each one of a smaller size, and also prevent the many, many updates that might be necessary with two games going on from annoying users.

From the maintenance perspective, I suspect you will be much better off making the DB mod separate.

Yeah, that's the conclusion I came to just after wiritng that... As to your previous point, I meant creating a database like Bifur, just holding the Dreamblade minis stats instead of DDM. | | -DaemonKain Proud Mascot of Team Amish

| Regrettably I design bridges for a living, not make 1s and 0s line up and dance.
Database entry I can do, just not programming. | | **overlong signature deleted. Please see posting guidelines**

| I should be able to do it. I've spent enough time in Vassal that I could probably get this working in a weekend if I had images for the units. With the quick glance I had at the map, I think I could create that fairly quickly too.
Mike posted in the Vassal forum that it had been announced for 36 hours and there wasn't a Vassal mod yet. It sort of sounded like he wants us to create one for this. If that is the case, I'll create the mod. (Mike, Can we get non-print quality maps from WoTC to support the D&D minis mod? [)])

Heh, well, what would really speed things up is if they just released a spoiler list with images of the minis, but, yeah.
In other news - looking at Bifur, it looks like it'll be slightly more difficult than I anticipated to mod this up to use Dreamblade minis instead of DDM minis. Mainly, there are several VB scripts that are triggered, and it's been a while since I played in VB. I'm a lot better with Database theory than with coding front ends. Oh well. I'll keep messing around with it, but I think it may be easier to start this from scratch. Given that we also do not have any images yet, I don't know that this will be of much more use than a minis browser of sorts. | | -DaemonKain Proud Mascot of Team Amish

| When putting in the Map each "square" should have room for 9 pieces, 4 creatures each and 1 location right?
Then 16 squares for your start zone and 16 for graveyard? | | Kaiserluger -

| Just curious, is there a Magic: the Gathering VASSAL module, or if not VASSAL one of the other freeware game builders out there? If there is, great. Ignore the rest of this!
If not, here's my thought. While WotC has been cool about DDM on VASSAL, DB seems much closer to Magic than DDM. So I wouldn't just assume it'd be OK with them to do it. Perhaps someone should approach WotC about the thumbs up before embarking on the project.
And yes, I may just be paranoid. [:)]

| | So, if I've finished the mod (well the 37 units whose names are known), but don't necessarily want to release it on VassalEngine.org, how should I distribute what I have? Did I hear rumors of a mailing list? If so, I'm sure it could be distributed through e-mail... | | | |

| Please see Bshugg's guide to vassal thread on how to load Vassal itself. It is located at the top of the Vassal forum in one of the Stickied threads. Or you can go to www.vassalengine.org and follow their directions on getting it downloaded and installed.
As for what to do with Vassal once you have it, you can play DDM with it. Those instructions are available on the Vassal forum under the stickied DDM 1-9-2 thread. Otherwise, if you want to play Dreamblade, I haven't decided how to release this module yet, as I don't have all the minis or stats for it.

| I will volunteer to host the file so everyone can download it. I don't imagine it's very large, correct?
Email it to me and I'll put it up and then post a link for download.

| ATTENTION:
The Vassal mod is now available at:
http://socalminis.org
It's under Hosted Files on the left, click on "Dreamblade"
I'll keep that link up to date as the mod is revised.
