From the WotC site comes this list of conventions where they will set up shop this year. These are places they COULD hold a DB 10K Tourny, not a final list:

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=welcome/conventions

Conventions & Trade Shows: 2006

Winter Fantasy Feb 22 - 26 Arlington, VA www.wizards.com

NY ComicCon Feb 24 - 26 NY, NY www.nycomiccon.com

GAMA March 13 - 16 Las Vegas, NV www.gama.org

E3 May 10 - 12 Los Angeles, CA www.e3expo.com

BEA May 19 - 21 Wash DC www.bookexpoamerica.com

Wizard World East June 2 - 4 Philadelphia, PA www.wizarduniverse.com

ALA June 24 - 27 New Orleans, LA www.ala.org

San Diego ComicCon July 20 - 23 San Diego, CA www.comiccon.org

Wizard World Chicago Aug 4 - 6 Rosemont, IL www.wizarduniverse.com

GenCon Indy August 10 - 13 Indianapolis, IN www.gencon.com

GenCon SoCal Nov 16 - 19 Anaheim, CA www.gencon.com

Wonder if this could be the short list (there is only 11) of locations for the 10K Dreamblade Tournaments?

Hopefully they will hold a couple in the Southeast like at MegaCon, FX Toy Show or DragonCon each year!

Hmmmm

A couple of comments: First WF is listed for the wrong weekend. We were told as WF was wrapping up that WF would be the 15-18 in February 06. This makes sense that they don't have overlap with the NY Comic Con.

I find it interesting that they are going to do Dreamblade at WF tobegin with though. Somewhere Ian commented about my question "why no AAM at WF". I thought it had to do with WF being a roleplaying show, and DDM and SWM tie into the various RPGA campaigns pretty easily.

How does DB do that?

next up: GAMA My understanding is that this is a closed show. It is for distributors, and owners of Game Stores. Its not huge, though it is important. There will be happy store owners if they can win a bunch of money from a pretty limited player pool!

SORRY!

I didn't mean to make it sound like these are the confirmed locations/dates. I was just showing the potential locations. There has been nothing official released yet.

Sorry for the confusion.

I changed the tone of my original post to reflect the true nature of the speculation. [:I]

GAH!

I'm sorry too... WotC is Websensed here, so I didn't go to check your link. I thought the DB site had been updated.

OK, I get it now... Well, I guess my comments should then be taken as " I don't think WF or GAMA will be 2 of the shows for a 10 k event...

I would agree that WF and GAMA seem like unlikely venues for this event. WF is really a RPGA event and GAMA is more of a trade show... if I remember correctly.

correct on both counts Strider. and I concur with your assessment that DB wont be a major event at either.

Please also note that the list is of 2006 events. the 2007 event list might be different. For example, if Connecticon doesnt go bankrupt again, it might draw some interest as a "major" con but isnt directly tied to D&D (hence away from their already captive audience and pulling from some cross groups)

Also, didn't Dreamblade promise exactly one $10k tourney a month? So don't expect them at both of any two Cons that are the same month.

Likely GenCon Indy will be in place of one, as that will be the Championships in future years. Of the rest, I'm sure GenCon SoCal will be the site of one of those tourneys.

aye. SoCal definately. ComicCon, DragonCon and other "uber" cons are definately on the list. 6 months ago I would have said "origins" but maybe not.

what are the major magic events? anyone know?
